US combat casualties from Gulf War I to the end of Clinton's presidency

US combat casualties from Gulf War I to the end of Clinton's presidency
Now, I'm not saying this is a good thing, because I think it reflects an unwillingness by the US to do good things (eg, in Rwanda, and in Yugoslavia much earlier) if American lives are at risk. I believe, as the movie Spiderman tells us, that with great power comes great responsibilty. However, here are the statistics (from the book The End of the American Era p. 207-8):

Gulf War I: 147
Clinton years (including action in ME, Africa, Balkans and Haiti): 18 (and those were all in a single firefight in Somalia, which resulted in US pulling out)

So, W is setting quite a record in Iraq, and it's not even a sacrifice which is resulting in anything good being achieved.
