Action Item - get your reps to this Peak Oil Presentation
Congressman Roscoe Bartlett will be giving a second Peak Oil related presentation to the US Congress this month. The speech will be more solutions orientated.

April 19th is the currently scheduled date.

The last speech was held in a special night session of Congress with very little attendance. The speech received almost no mainstream media coverage. However US residents can now approach their congressperson and ask them what they think we should do about the matters raised in the Congressional record, March 14, Items 54 and 55.

Actions Needed:

1 - Please call your Congressmen/women and ask them to attend this presentation! It is imperative that our elected representatives understand this issue. Time will be made available for them to ask questions and debate the issue.

2 – Please write letters to the editor of your local papers expressing your hope that your Representatives attend this presentation. Mention your Rep by name in the letter. Congressional staffers keep a close eye on letters that mention their reps by name and it is said to have more impact than a single email or letter.

Oil is a finite resource which will run out at some point in time. You can debate when that may be, but to safeguard the future for our grandchildren, it is not an issue we can ignore. Our representatives need to be aware of changes that may need to be made now in order to preserve our economy for the future. The future may be closer than we think.

Please make those calls. Write those emails. Write that letter to the editor!
And pass this on….

2. I don't know
He is a Republican and I don't know alot about him -

What I see as a problem here is that his Republican buddies sure don't want to talk about Peak Oil and the Dems won't go because he is a Repug -

Problem is, this isn't a party problem, it is a global economic and environmental problem that - regardless of when you think oil production will begin to permenently decline - is going to require some major shifts in production, transportation, ... well just about everything.

So even if it is 20 or 50 years from now we have to be planning for it NOW.

I mean, jeez... if Republicans can call Social Security a crisis now, why can't they see that this will be a crisis sooner or later?

3. Cuba: Life after Oil:
Cuba: Life after Oil:
http://www.communitysolution.org/pdfs/NS2.pdf

Cuba is unique in the world today. We're talking about our oil use and reducing it, worry if it will be 2% or 3% per year – or even 5%? Cuba reduced their oil use over 50% in one year. Castro announced on that things were going to be a little difficult and one week later, the oil tankers from Russia stopped coming in. There was no idea of "we should take six months and think this through." They got very little warning. Per capita energy use in Cuba is now running between 1/15th and 1/20th of the U.S. per capita use. Cuba is changing from an industrial to an agrarian society. Sometimes you'll hear them speak or write about a modernized peasantry. They realized they had little choice. So they're now deep into and not lamenting the fact that they are moving more and more away from industrialism and more towards agrarianism. In doing that, they put a lot of their efforts into things like biotechnology, not genetic engineering. They asked how can you come up with a better worm for worm castings, and how can you deal with this field over here in west Cuba that has a particular infestation. What kind of biological agents can you use?

Part of the issue is determining what we are going to do in a low energy world. If I'm not worried about the next car or the addition to the house and getting the latest fashion styles, what am I going to think about? Cuba is focused on building human resources. They decided to invest in the people. They have excellent medical care, with far more doctors per capita than we do. Teaching is a major priority for them. So their goal is have really top notch medical care, great schools, and we're many sports programs. So their national strategy is to focus on sports which helps health and team work and is very low energy.
