Jimmy Carter SNUBBED by monkey?
Edited on Tue Apr-05-05 03:08 PM by Bluebear

Jimmy Carter wanted to attend the Pope's funeral but was "willing to withdraw his application when informed that the 'official' US delegation was limited to five and that others wanted to go." - CNN "Inside Politics"

Official delegation will be Smirk, Pickles, Poppy, Clinton and DR. Rice.

==

Meanwhile....

"Spokesman Scott McClellan also confirmed that the White House had reached out to former president Jimmy Carter, but declined to say why Carter was not coming along when Bush leaves for the Vatican early Wednesday."

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=edit&forum=104&topic_id=3429179&mesg_id=3429179

SO what is the real story?

This is so rude but I'm not surprised. Bush is a spoiled brat. Why in the world are they sending Rice? Couldn't they leave her behind for Carter? If I was Carter I'd get my own airplane and go myself and screw everybody else.

115. Carter might expose Bush for the false Christian that he is.
Carter went to church every Sunday when he was in the White House. He even found time to teach a Sunday School class.
Bush says he reads the Bible every day, but sometimes I wonder which one, "The Bartenders' Bible of Bar Drinks," "The Pretzel Eaters' Bible on How to Avoid Choking," "The Liars' Bible on How To Be Believable?"

His genuine Christianity shows in what he has done over the years. He also was very negative about Bush and Condi's war. Why Condi - possibly because Bush can not stand on his own with world leaders.

Jimmy Carter showed himself to be a true gentlemen by withdrawing his application after discovering others wanted to go. However, someone needs to put Condileeza in her damn place and let her know she does NOT outrank former presidents.

34. "Spokesman with Carter Center declined to elaborate"
AP - Former Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton will accompany President George W Bush to the funeral of Pope John Paul II, the White House has announced. Also attending will be Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Bush and his wife, Laura, will lead the five-member group representing the United States at the funeral on Friday, White House press secretary Scott McClellan said.

It was not immediately clear why former President Jimmy Carter was not going along as well. A spokesman with his Carter Centre in Atlanta, Jon Moore, declined to elaborate. Former President Gerald Ford, who lives in California, is 91 and no longer travels extensively.

Clinton spokesman Jim Kennedy said the former president had been given clearance by his doctors to fly to Rome.

Earlier in the week, several times was mentioned the delegation would be Bush & wife, Bush I, Clinton & Carter.

Yesterday was announced the group hadn't been decided yet, & would be announced today.

Also, probably Vatican said only 5 allowed, so they dumped Carter.

I think it's very disrespectful.

This is a big "FU!" to the Vatican for the Pope's opposition to the Iraq War. Too bad so many folks who got outraged by Prince Charles' wedding schedule will not muster the same outrage at what is a TRUE "FU" to John Paul.

Carter didn't support his warmongering, so this is no doubt a retaliatory move. Petty little ape.

101. Thank you for the link. My letter to the Jimmy Carter Library:
I wish to express my sincere regret and sadness that President Carter will not be in the U.S. delegation for the funeral of the Pope. This is a gross miscarriage of justice. Ms. Rice should go in her own entourage, and be graceful enough to withdraw herself from the delegation and she should insist that the honor belongs to the only man whom the Pope actually chose to visit at the White House, that being the most kind and gracious and truly Christian man, Jimmy Carter.

Thank you for your kind consideration.

Carter, a man who literally breathes peace, a man who brokered the greatest mid East peace deal is snubbed? Didn't he win a Nobel prize as well? I guess 'Dr' Rice has to go to determine if the Vatican is either with us or against us.

68. Carter is the only recent former President who has
continued to dedicate his life primarily to public service. He's a man of peace, a genuinely religious man, and a Nobel Laureate - the kind of person who should be heading up the US delegation. It's a travesty that the BFEE is involved at all - warmongering SOB's that they are. Clinton has been way too cozy with these sleazebags of late. He ought to spend a little more time studying and learning from Pres. Carter's post-Presidential legacy.

86. In the words of the Bard . . . .
Fool. When priests are more in word than matter;
When brewers mar their malt with water;
When nobles are their tailors' tutors;
No heretics burn'd, but wenches' suitors;
When every case in law is right;
No squire in debt, nor no poor knight;
When slanders do not live in tongues;
Nor cutpurses come not to throngs;
When usurers tell their gold i' the field;
And bawds and whores do churches build;
Then shall the realm of Albion
Come to great confusion:
Then comes the time, who lives to see't,
That going shall be used with feet.

87. Yes, Heaven forbid they have an actual practitioner of Christianity along!
Jimmy Carter is probably one of the most Christian men (in the sense of actually trying to live by the words of the Gospels) ever to become President.

Seems like they could have let Pickles stay home for this one so that President Carter could attend. The Secretary of State, however much I may dislike the woman, is appropriate, as are the two former Presidents. The real pity is that they have to let Smirk the Crazed Chimpboy attend...
