1. My wife had it when we met
They were charging more than double what State Farm charged. They are mainly for people who can't get coverage elsewhere. And those who don't knowany better.

2. I did.
They screwed me. Gave me one quote, paid for it, then next thing you know, they bill me for over $200 more. It would have been cheaper to stay with the company I had. They are in the midst (I think) of settling a class action lawsuit about this very thing.

3. Try Geico
You can even pay monthly for a small fee and then pay it online. I've had them for 15 years now and no one can touch their pricing. Of course they suck if you have a claim, well they all do but besides that they are not bad.

4. I do, & have had no problems
I had had Geico for years, Progressive was a lot cheaper. In reply to post #1 I'm a good driver, no tickets, accidents or any other problems. I priced State Farm, Allstate & 2 others. None of them could come close to Progressive. I'm very happy with them, & see their customer service vehicles all over which is reassuring. Does any other company have that sort of program?

6. my sister had it for a while
it started off being pretty cheap but her rates were continuously raised until she was paying more than her previous insurer. This is a 46 yr old woman with no driving tickets. She went back to Allstate and seems to be pretty happy with them for now. FWIW.. I've been with Allstate more than 20 yrs.

8. I had Progressive.
My partner and I decided to combine our policies so our house and 2 trucks and his motorcycle are all on one policy. When I called Progressive to cancel they said I can't do it over the phone. They told me to fax them a letter that said I wanted to cancel and that I needed to pay a $50.00 fee. I basically told them to go fuck themselves and just stopped paying the premiums. Now I am getting calls from a collection agency. I told the collection agency to leave me alone or I am going to sue for harrassment. We'll see where it goes.

13. you do have to make changes in writing...
true for most legal contracts...and
the $50 fee was to close out before the
policy ended?

9. I do, and have for quite some time.
I have no tickets, safe driver discount, etc. Many years ago, I was in an accident (not my fault). They settled my claim fairly efficiently, though they did try to shaft me on an additional equipment rider (I had expensive rims on the car). All in all, it only took a couple phone calls to get my claim settled.

They do everything online and on the net. You can get a policy over the phone, and they'll fax/e-mail your ins cards to you immediately. Then, they mail the rest to you for signatures/waivers, etc.

They're also a blue company.

12. I've used them for several years now.
my premiums have not gone up at all and i've had absolutely no problems with them. i switched from farmer's after my son had racked up a couple of speeding tickets. they were much cheaper than farmer's. i've been very satisfied with progressive.

and i understand they're a "blue" company.

14. Being a "blue" company was why I am interested
They don't a lot but they give 91% to Dems.
I like that aspect, but I also want good coverage
at a reasonable price for the kind of driving I do
and record I have.

Thanks all for your input.

16. I didn't know they were a "blue" co.! But I have them and I like them.
One more reason to stay with them, I guess.

We switched from USAA and State Farm (my wife and I) and like Progressive better than both.

State Farm may have been due mainly to a bad local agent, but they were HORRIBLE.

USAA was more expensive and we had to sue them to get them to pay on an accident that they were supposed to pay on, by contract.

So we cancelled and got Progressive, which was significantly cheaper. So far, we have had two small fender-bender claims. Actually, we never made a claim on the second, but the first, they bent over backwards to make everything easy, paid us much more that the repairs would cost, didn't raise our rates, and were in general VERY nice and easy to deal with.

Now, that could come down to the local office, too. But in general, we like them.

15. Geico is 95% red, 5% blue....Progressive, just the opposite
www.buyblue.org

I have had Progressive for 2 years now, no problems. I could have bought from 2 companies who were $10 less per six-months, but since Progressive is blue, went with them. You can buy Progressive from independent insurance companies in your area, and pay a few % more for their services (have a live, local person to talk to when buying coverage, or if you have an accident), or just buy online, cheaper. As long as I have no problems with them, will just stay with Progressive.

17. I had them, but
I didn't like their service. I was in an accident that was my fault and they were hassling me about getting my car fixed. I had full coverage but they were dragging their heels about paying. I then switched to Geico, which were fine, until I moved to Michigan, which is a no fault state. Overnight my premiums shot up 200%. I am now with State Farm, which I like very much. My car was broken into and they took care of it, less the deductible. You get what you pay for, insurance-wise.

18. I've had them for years
had three/four accidents under their coverage

They're a good, fair company and I am going to remain a loyal customer after finding out the hard way how some of these other companies work.

21. They were the only company who would insure my son
and he has NEVER had an accident or ticket, just no long-term driving experience record.

They gave me no problems whatsoever, were much more reasonable than any other quote (by hundreds of dollars), and I thought their website was very easy to use.

We did everything online and it was very efficient. I will definitely renew with them.
