Pat Buchanan Doused With Salad Dressing
April 1, 2005

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - Commentator and former presidential candidate Pat Buchanan cut short an appearance after an opponent of his conservative views doused him with salad dressing.

``Stop the bigotry!'' the demonstrator shouted as he hurled the liquid Thursday night during the program at Western Michigan University. The incident came just two days after another noted conservative, William Kristol, was struck by a pie during an appearance at a college in Indiana.

After he was hit, Buchanan cut short his question-and-answer session with the audience, saying, ``Thank you all for coming, but I'm going to have to get my hair washed.''

1. As funny as that is,
these people need to stop acting like kids in a high school cafeteria food fight. All this does is get Kristol and Buchanan more media time, and make the throwers look more foolish than their targets.
That being said, LMAO.

9. Buchanan didn't deserve that. He's totally useful to Democrats.
He's just as much against Bush as we are, if you've been listening to him on McLaughlin.

Granted, I've got problems with him, but I think he's learned something really important over the years. He's less like early b&w propaganda film Hitler, and more like the human Hitler portrayed by Bruno Ganz in "Downfall".

11. I'm against these things
First it reflects badly on the Democratic side.

Second, it is attacking someone's right to free speech, and I'll take a stand against that.

If someone hit me with a pie while I was making a public speech, I would not let up on him/her. I would prosecute them to the full extent of the law, and then sue them civily. And not because I was mad or wanted money either. I would try to warn people that they do not have the right to keep people from speaking if they don't agree with them.

I think it's a serious issue, and also is self-defeating as it makes the victim sympathetic.
