Poll question: SUV Owners! With near 60 Dollars a barrel, do you regret getting an SUV?
http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000006&sid=aPA1rmG3f200&refer=home

April 1 (Bloomberg) -- Crude oil and gasoline surged to all- time highs on speculation that rising demand may outpace U.S. refinery production this summer and strain global oil supplies.

Increasing fuel use and refinery maintenance have cut U.S. gasoline supplies during the last four weeks. Oil surged yesterday after Goldman Sachs Group Inc. analysts predicted that oil could touch $105 a barrel. Petroleos de Venezuela SA said yesterday that it would shut the world's biggest refinery for as much as a week.

Poll Question: Do you regret getting an SUV?

5. I have a '95 Toyota 4Runner....bought it with 150k+ miles......
would love to be able to afford a new hybrid...or anything with decent mileage...but I just can't afford a new or "newer" vehicle at this time....

I thought Toyotas were good on gas...DOH!...not this one which is small as SUV's go. Plus in my area I have to go on some pretty rough roads sometimes so I need something NOT low to the ground , or I'd still have my minivan which I love & miss...but it just wore out

6. We own a 4dr dually for towing and hauling family on vacation
Edited on Sat Apr-02-05 01:37 AM by woodsprite
In 12 yrs, we've put 40 thousand miles on it. It is our second car only when our 1st car is in the shop or due to the kids and extra curricular activities requiring us to run two different directions (very seldom - 2x per month). Even with our primary car, dh and I work at the same place (2 cubbies away from eachother) so we drive together, are within walking distance to 90% of all our meetings with clients, and can make a full round trip including picking up the kids from daycare in about 20 min. Now, the first 18 yrs, we weren't so lucky - drove about 50 miles/day just for work, school, and daycare.

When our primary car runs out, we're looking at getting possibly a Jeep, maybe something with alternative fuel capabilty. You can get them in the pickup trucks, but I haven't seen what the towing capacity is yet. We're just starting down that path considering the cost and the economy.

Adding on edit - our primary car is a 2000 Dodge Caravan that very seldome travels without at least 4 people in the seats.

7. I have a 5yr old GMC, didn't use it much this winter as I was laid up
with a busted up leg & ankle. Soon will pull out my old Plymouths and Chevy to drive. The one Plymouth barge with the smaller engine get pretty good MPG, better than the truck. I was going to trade in the SUV for a new one but will probably just put it away in the garage. I want a Dodge Magnum.

11. SUV = Future low rent housing.
The way things are looking here, some people might be lucky to live in an old, immobile SUV in 20 years.

15. LOL, my hub and I were laughing about just the same this morning
as I drove him to work. Cut off multiple times by those in their SUV's we were just riffing on them. We live in North Dallas, requisite to be a true N. Dallasite is to own at least one (we don't).

Interesting remark my hub made is that those living in them would not be the owners of said vehicle. Hmmmm.... I'm still trying to figure that one out.

12. I feel bad about my pick up truck
I need the damned thing to carry the crap around.I tryed putting a sail on it but the mast hit a tree on the way out of the driveway.I was doing about 12 knots at the time so the tree fell on the house and woke up our dog.

If we could figure out a way to use the hate in the world as an energy supply things would be terrific.
How many miles per O'Rielly could I get in 4700 pound pick up ?

17. We used to have the same problem with my husband's work van.
Try raising the centerboard so it doesn't dig into the driveway. If you have a fixed keel, this obviously won't work, and I don't know what to tell ya.

:hi: Your post made me laugh. Love when that happens.

and getting back on track. My daughter-in-law just traded her Ford Explorer (what? 15 miles to the gallon?) in for a Mitsubishi Outlander (think she said it gets about 23 mpg). Why she needs an SUV to drop kids off at school and drive back and forth to work in Florida, I'll never know.

Our big old work van gets like 12 mpg. ouch ouch ouch. But, whatchya gonna do? It's what he needs.

16. I have a 4wd V8 Chevy pickup thats been sitting almost a year now.
I need this truck to do get firewood, tow my boat, etc etc. I use to drive it back and forth to work too, but when gas started getting higher and higher I parked it. I have an old 1990 Buick LeSabre that gets 28 mpg and runs like a sewing machine. Thats what I've been driving and I could care less what other people think of me driving that old car.

18. We have 4 kids and a hobby
that needs a vehicle with room to haul things. We have to have a large car, although it definitely IS a second car.

Is this going to be another litmus test for Democrats? Are we just going to keep driving people off on the basis of being 'more progressive' than thou? Shouldn't we at some point try to include as many people as possible instead of making disparaging remarks and judging people over something like the vehicle they choose to drive?
