There are no new Schiavo stories on the BBC as of 2:21 pm PST
The last updated story was dated Monday 4:34 GMT (Sunday 8:34 pm PST).

We'll probably hear little about this for a while.

There are a few here who think this story has been a distraction. I do not share that view. It would be a distraction if it were simply a woman dying in Florida with her husband and parents feuding about whether to remove her feeding tube.

However, since demagogues started playing to the rabble a couple of weeks ago and threatened to abuse the police power of the state in defiance of the law, it took on more ominous importance beyond a death watch and a family dispute. It showed again in how much peril our democratic institutions are in the hands of Mr. Bush and his allies.

...as soon as they knew that the big waves were over due.
