WH "leak" that Bush "didn't want to sign the bill" is complete BS
C'mon...
You don't interrupt your much coveted vacations to fly up to DC to sign a freaking bill in the middle of the night in your pajamas if "you really didn't want to". This is the most secretive, tight lipped, disciplined White House in living memory. There is no way this is a "leak". Not for a moment should anyone ever believe that Bush wasn't dying for the opportunity to grandstand and pull this drama-queen act of 11th hour, Christian fundamentalist butt kissing of the extreme right wing of the party.

This talk of a "leak" is the first increment of an incremental back-pedalling away from Bush's complete embrace of the (now found to be) WRONG side of this issue.

Kerry may have "voted for the 87 billion before he voted against it", but c'mon?!- Bush signed a bill he really didn't want to?
Don't let them pull an Orwellian rewrite on this one!

1. Obviously Bush is not in charge. I hope it dawns on the
religious right how they've had much smoke blown in their face. Would have to happen sometime.

2. now there's a flip-flopper for you
I wonder how much "negotiating with himself" he did, before agreeing to this, if he didn't want to sign that bill in the first place?

5. Actually, I think the leak story is a good thing.
It's precisely BECAUSE everyone knows he wanted to sign the bill that this leak story makes him look desperate and more than a little pathetic. The polls show most think this was political grandstanding--trying to wiggle out of it now makes them look a thousand times worse. In other words, everyone knows what was leaked isn't true, and everyone sees the brazen poll-driven dishonesty of it. The public isn't that stupid about this one.

9. I agree.
Getting the Chimpinator to interrupt a vacation has always been like pulling teeth, maybe because he has to cut short his drinking binges. He wouldn't have done it if he hadn't figured on getting a good batch of Jesus Points from his freeper fundie base. (By the way, I think it's wonderfully ironic that Al Qaeda is Arabic for "the base"). It's only now that the whole sorry business is not playing so well with the other 80% that Boy George and Jebbie are trying to backpedal and pretend they really weren't quite so fired up about it. Hey, guys, didn't the Bible say something about reaping what you sow? HAHAHAHAHA!

31. You know that's a bunch of crap.
He didn't "have" to interrupt his vacation. The leader of the free world could have had the damned thing flown to him for his signature. The White House did it for the reasons stated in that memo, which was circulated the Sat. before Congress met, about Schiavo being a good issue for the repukes and their fundy base to get behind.

13. Bush wouldn't even step up to a podium to issue a statement on the Tsunami
Took him four days to say something. From Crawford. Did not leave the ranch until the weekend. 100,000 people wiped from the face of the Earth. Bush was busy all week. Bike riding. Hanging out at the "ranch."

19. In Bush's defense....
..he really has no choice in what he's suppose to do. Those who are pulling his strings put him on that plan. Maybe George knew it was wrong but since, let's face it, he's not the one really in charge I'm sure he had no choice in the matter.

The "Leak" is just more proof that Bush is the puppet in this regime

22. make no mistake, this was a political opportunity which Bush embraced
and embraced willingly. Do you know the bill could have been flown down to Texas for his signature? But no- that wasn't good enough for the Bushies- they had to make a dramatic, life-saving, "heroic" mission out of it. "Time was of the essence", and Bush had to be there to sign it immediately. And nevermind that as far as sound law goes the bill was a pile of crap which never had a chance to effect the outcome.

29. The advance exit polls showing Kerry winning
meanwhile, the other aspect of this thing that gets me burned to my core is that the "law" passed by congress was a piece of shit legislation. I mean, give me a break- the fucking law names the Schiavo parents specifically. Since when do we pass laws for specific individuals? The NYTimes editorial last week was dead on accurate on this point:

the new law... gives "any parent of Theresa Marie Schiavo" standing to sue in federal court to keep her alive.

This narrow focus is offensive. The founders believed in a nation in which, as Justice Robert Jackson once wrote, we would "submit ourselves to rulers only if under rules." There is no place in such a system for a special law creating rights for only one family. The White House insists that the law will not be a precedent. But that means that the right to bring such claims in federal court is reserved for people with enough political pull to get a law passed that names them in the text....
