Terri Schiavo = Elian Gonzales
Sound legal decisions will win out, despite the best efforts of relatives enlisting the aid of Republican political opportunists. Sun will rise following day.

2. I agree with the analogy
not your optimistic belief that "sound legal decisions will win out". "Much heat and little light" is the likely outcome IMO. This is not the kind of case that any law can adequately address.

4. The law part is pretty well decided
Remember that it took an (unconstitutional) act of Congress to give the parents one more appeal. I'm not a lawyer, but as I understand it the federal court will have to overturn the decisions of the lower courts, and in general they don't like doing that.

But I agree: "Much heat and little light."

3. good point.
Is everyone in Florida a complete whack job or what? I care for neither Elian or Terry. Why oh why are they even news? When will the petty media stop and grow back the dignity that they once had?

6. "Either send him back, or let the father emigrate here."
That's what I said within seconds of first hearing about Elian.

7. I thought the exact same thing.
Watching republicans impose their values by involving themselves in family matters, picking the family members that are the good ones who should decide.
