Terri Schiavo: Before Bloviating -- www.abstractappeal.com
Perhaps, before we bloviate, we could read the actual court documents and review the timeline concerning the case?

Or would facts cloud the issue too much?

1. Why?
Why imerse in the details in this case? This issue is very personal and emotional. Mot people make up their minds based on what they would want/would have done in similar situation.

There is no need to accuse people of being uninformed.

2. Sarcasm? Or do you really make life-decisions without
getting all the information available?

3. Not our decision to make.
Only her husband can make a decision like this. Otherwise marriage means nothing.

6. I agree--only her husband can make Terri's choice now,
but for the rest of us, it's in our best interests to know our facts, and act accordingly....

8. I cannot imagine in what way we could possibly act!
Thats my issue. Unless we act by making it impossible to interfere in cases such as this as her parents have done?

5. Are you serious?
Becoming informed is the only way to have an intelligent opinion on this matter. In fact, before I actually read all the data available, my opinion was based solely on emotions. Since I've become familiar with the case, my opinion has changed completely. People may be able to stop the hysteria if they can just get the facts.

10. Exactly.
When all I had were the "facts" presented by Terri's parents, I was outraged and thought Michael was just this monster. When I actually devled in and found out more about the case, I changed my mind. Hysteria is a good word for it. I think most of the people who think Michael's decision should be blocked wouldn't be okay with the media and politicians butting into their own business, I'm sure. For me, it came down to one thing. A spouse either is a legal next of kin who is able to insure their spouse's wishes are fulfilled, or they aren't. If we take that away, then we weaken marriage legally and socially. I got past the emotions and looked at the facts. I think that is hard for some people to do.

4. Everyone will lose in the Schiavo case.
Schiavo has been exploited by so many interests on both sides that no one can ever win or even have peace of mind about Schiavo's situation. Whether she dies or lives, she will never rest in peace. Poor woman. It is so sad.

7. Sincere (not Sarcastic) Questions
Edited on Thu Mar-17-05 12:52 PM by UTUSN
I have skimmed the links in the original post and can't garner a clue as to what direction you want to steer discussion.

This case has been "bloviated" by wingnuts and fundies for 15 years. What is YOUR position?

As for the "timeline"--the schedule for removal is tomorrow, but Shrub is BLOVIATING in favor of the "Incapacitated Persons Legal Protection Act" and a whole re-run of what has happened before might happen again. I suppose that these A-holes can even re-insert the feeding tube AFTER removal if they pass this travesty.

I'm responding in a vaccuum, since I don't know the O.P.'s intentions.

9. To answer your questions----
I agree with Judge Greer, completely. I wish those who did not agree with the court would actually read the documents as opposed to bloviating about other crap.

I should have been clearer.....

11. Well, *I* Wish You Were Clear EVEN NOW
Edited on Thu Mar-17-05 11:03 PM by UTUSN
Your original point was that ALL of us MUST review EVERY SINGLE POINT IN THIS CASE.

Well, no.

There is ABSOLUTENY -------NO-NEED----TO review EVERY SINGLE DETAIL OF EVERY SINGLE CASE.

The issue is INDIVIDUAL CHOICE. Terri SCHAIVO is like ME. Thank Zeus I have my wishes down in writing. But the process is CLEAR: If it's NOT in writing, the next-of-kin thingy applies. That being THE SPOUSE.

Then, the next-of-kin STATES what the INDIVIDUAL --------SAID------like, when we're watching T.V., and *I* say, I never want to end up LIKE THAT. That's a STATEMENT. And the SPOUSE garners STATEMENTS from FRIENDS and RELATIVES who HEARD THE individual SAY the SAME THING.

What's at issue is that THE INDIVIDUAL's CHOICE is what RULES, NOT -=effing "RELIGION" or GODDAMNED RELIGION OR POLITICS. This is a PERSONAL/PRIVATE thing----------------O.K.??????????????????

I ----------HATE/DESPISE WINGNUT FAKE RELIGIOUS/POLITICAL A-HOLES!!!!!!!!!!!
