13 year old 10 Commandments protestor weighs in
What, she can't remember them? She needs to refer to them on a wall? Where is the home training?

===

Christan (!) Stapleton, 13, of Newland, N.C. carried a homemade, cardboard Ten Commandments tablet. She came to the Supreme Court with her church and family members.

"We do need them in our school," she said, "to help us know what to do, what God wants us to do as we go through our day."

Brandi Swindell, (!) from Boise, Idaho, joins members of clergy from numerous Christian faiths in candlelight vigil and prayers services on the Ten Commandments on the sidewalk in front of the Supreme Court Tuesday, March, 1, 2005 in Washington.

Christian Ministers from Kentucky demonstrate outside of the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington while arguments are being heard inside over two cases involving Ten Commandments displays in public courthouses Wednesday, March 2, 2005. Left to right are Rev. Ray Hines, Rev. Henry Westerfield and Rev. Gary Dull. (!)

5. This parochial school graduate agrees with you.
Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 04:38 PM by Padraig18
My family chose--- chose--- to send me to parochial school, where I saw the 10 Commandments and the Beatitudes (and a whole lot more) every day. The issue isn't whether I was or wasn't harmed by being exposed to them, the issue is separation of Church and State. I'll keep my Church out of our government, if our government will kindly stay out of my Church. FWIW, the Catholic Church is in favor of keeping them out of government buildings.

:)

6. That's the really funny thing that these clowns don't realize.
It's not even about protecting the government from religion as much as it is about protecting religion from the government.

I think they might change their minds about their positions if they thought about it that way.

10. Not only that, but it seems they've totally forgotten30% of them
They need to reacquaint themselves with the first three.

8. As Paul Begala asked
Are Churches doing such a poor job of teaching the word that they need the help of the Government?

Invade Iraq and then Iran, Syria? Kill innocent people to steal their resources? Is that what the ten commandments wants us to do?

But I suppose the girl has been brain washed with so much zealotry crap that that lesson was skipped.

9. Oh, crap!
It's Thou shall NOT steal!

Man, if only my school had had the 10 C's up on the wall when I was growing up. I would be a lot poorer than I am today, but at least my sould would be safe.

Damn you liberal educator elites!

Hey honey, God (if there is such a thing and you can believe it or not) wants you to not hurt people and not hurt things. Can you remember these 2 rules or do you want me to tattoo them on your arm so you can refer to them every day?

Why do you need constant reminders of what to do? It just isn't that hard. arghhh.

13. Exactly which commandments is she in danger of breaking at school?
/satire on

1. You shall not worship any other god but YHWH. - Shouldn't be a problem. It's a SCHOOL, not a temple.
2. You shall not make a graven image. - Does this include art class?
3. You shall not take the name of YHWH in vain. - You already get in trouble for swearing in school.
4. You shall not break the Sabbath. - There is no school on the weekends. . . unless you get into trouble.
5. You shall not dishonor your parents. - Okay, that's one.
6. You shall not murder. - What the hell kind of school does this kid go to?
7. You shall not commit adultery. - This is another no-brainer. No fucking at recess!
8. You shall not steal. - You already get in trouble for this, too.
9. You shall not commit perjury. - You already get in trouble for lying, as well.
10. You shall not covet. - Is this about cheating on tests? I'm raelly not too clear here.

No offense to our Christian DUers out there. . . I just don't see what these rules have to do with a classroom, or how they even apply.

14. Is Christan
soooo immoral that a few hours out of the site of the ten commandments is enough for her to start worshiping flase images. I can just picture poor Christan sitting in homeroom coveting her neighbors wife. If only those ten commandments were there to save her...

17. By protesting on this basis they are making our point
The argument for displaying is that the 10 Commandments are the basis of our legal system (a joke in itself), but they are advocating it because it is a Christian document, exactly the reason it should be banned

These are the spokespersons for the repressive right.

What's the matter, conservawhackos? Your big boys getting cuffed around a little too often, so you have to shove kids out front to peddle your morally bankrupt agenda?

DAMMIT.

Unless ALL churches want to have their tax-exempt status revoked IMMEDIATELY and forget that $3 billion that bushie has been handing out to you.

You get your little fundie church welfare and now you want the church in public schools?

34. GRRRRRR
it really burns me the hell up.

I work with a local Atheists group, because they work hard on separation of church and state issues and they could NOT believe it when I told them I was Christian. I had to tell them "we aren't all nutcases."

We have a fundie on our school board who is pushing for the Ten Commandments in the schools, but our city is TOOOO against it. And everyone hates her anyway. She'll be voted off this May, thank goodness.

If she needs to look at them constantly, her arm is a better location than the school wall.
