I'm sorry, but I'm extremely angry, and there's just going to be some ranting done.
Yesterday a federal judge named Joan Lefkow came home to find that her husband and mother had been murdered. The police refuse to speculate, but it does not take Sherlock Holmes to figure out that there's probably a connection between the fact that her family was just murdered and the fact that Lefkow was on Matthew Hale's hit list after ruling against his white supremacist group (on a fucking *copyright* lawsuit) and after Hale got put away for trying to have her rubbed out.
Liza knows Lefkow slightly because she has appeared before her a couple times and because one of the other lawyers in her firm lives in her neighborhood. She is very upset, of course. I don't know Lefkow personally, but I've got enough imagination to know how fast I would lose my mind if I came home to a similar spectacle.
But it's OK, because we're winning the war on terror, right?
BULLSHIT! All that CRAP that we had to put up with in the USA PATRIOT Act because it was supposed to protect us from terrorism somehow didn't stop a bunch of white supremacist assholes in Chicago from putting out a hit on a federal judge's family. We can now send 'enemy combatants' whose real names we're not even sure we know to Guantanamo for years on end to be abused six ways from Sunday, but that isn't going to protect us from THIS kind of terrorism, is it? Neither will all the bullshit we're now doing to try to control immigration into this country, nor will the clampdown on student visas, nor will hundreds of the other stupid security tricks that thsi administration has pulled since 9/11. Because apparently, only Muslims, Arabs, and non-Americans are dangerous. Anyone who's a white man and and American citizen must be A-OK!
None of this bullshit was ever about security, people. There is no security. It's just there to allow the government to control the people they want to control and let run amok the people they want to let run amok.
Now I don't necessarily blame the government for not protecting poor Judge Lefkow any better. You can't protect everyone from everything; I keep saying that. But it just GALLS me that in a country that uses "security" to justify destroying every last goddamn civil liberty we have, shit like this is still going on.
ARGH!
