CSPAN Replaying "State of the Black Union" w/ Tavis Smiley at 8pm
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 07:54 PM by qanda
If you get a chance, please tune in for the repeat of this wonderful forum. In fact, you really should tape it or TIVO it for others to see. The first few hours are about the health of black Americans and the last 4 hours are about creating a "Contract with Black America".

Please keep this kicked and comment if you are watching.

3. I'm watching.
I saw much of the second half and thought it was excellent. I'm glad they're discussing the manipulation of the black churches.

4. I watched Farrakon (sp) speak....he said something about
what have the democrats done for us? If they want our vote...they need to work for it...or something like that...and he got a huge standing ovation on that issue. It appeared the audience was anti-democratic. The democratic party led the way for progress made in civil rights. It may not be the greatest party in many ways...but the other one...is a whole lot worse. Unless of course you are wealthy and worried about keeping it all in the family.

6. Not"anti-democratic". Dems must stop taking the Black vote for granted
Until the day the Democratic party understands this, it's bound to keep losing elections. Not anti-democratic Gin, disgusted is more like it.

More people at DU should listen to this to understand why Democrats have been and will continue to lose elections- too many basic needs are NOT addressed by our party in the interest of keeping corporations happy. The needs of the few moderates determined to keep their investments healthy do not outweigh the basic needs of the majority of less well-off people who are disgusted with both parties- the Democratic party is going to have to choose sooner than it wanted because people are jumping ship faster than it can attract liberal/moderate Republicans.

Very interesting show.
