hunter s thompson compared to gannon????
Edited on Thu Feb-24-05 05:49 PM by chickenscratching
oh boy, this is one rich thread....its so nice that gannon so decently put 'fear and loathing' on his website...but when you even consider putting this slutty moustachio alongside the lovingly drug crazed, brilliant writer ( you can figure out who is who ja?) i don't know what to think.

"Was Gannon any different than Hunter S. Thompson's "gonzo journalism"? Or Helen Thomas' brand of same?"

'Well, gee, Nohero. That's an interesting statement that Gannon just reprinted press releases. I'm wondering if he took the anti-illegal immigration stance in his questioning that Terry Moran seems to allude to ("But he also challenged the White House from time to time with pointed questions—from the right. And that always struck me as valuable and necessary.") and then just reprinted press releases. Do you know Gannon did that all the time? '

nothing too crazy, but i thought some of the thoughts on this thread were amusing...geez...

1. First Gannon uses the Fear and Loathing phrase on his site
and now people are comparing him to HST? Why are repugs trying to use HSTs death to legitimize Gannon!

4. No, because Thompson actually wrote his stories...
...while Gannon prefers the cut and paste method.

6. Gannon couldn't sharpen Thompson's pencils.
He was a cut-and-paste loser who hitched his wagon to the Bush Cult machine...a good hustler knows where an easy dollar can be had.

7. HST was all about exposing those with feet of clay, he took risks
he never wanted or needed affirmation nor would he suck up to power, especially illegitimate power, just to get ahead. Helen Thomas has asked tough questions of every president, D or R, because that is the job of a journalist. She never lobbed a softball at anyone. The fact that this adminstration has relegated her to the journalistic gulag while lavishing attention on a call boy/ringer is proof that they cannot bear even the weakest amount of scrutiny.

Guckert is a stinking opportunist and a bootlicking toady whose services have always been on sale to the highest bidder. His name (real or assumed) shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence with the likes of Hunter S. Thompson or Helen Thomas.

9. Could you imagine the contempt HST would feel for Gannon?
It would melt steel.

10. HST compared Nixon to Adolf Hitler in print
that's how long the Doktor fought against the rising tide of fascism.

Gannon*, on the other hand, is a willing and eager tool of the fascist propaganda mill.
