Is Digby correct? "Gan/Gurk puts cracks in Repug"Masculinity" Coalition?
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 11:28 AM by KoKo01
It certainly does seem as if the Bush White House is pretty darned tolerant for an administration that mined millions of votes in the evangelical community by being against gay rights. And the Dems and the mainstream press know very well that this is a problem for the Republicans.

George W. Bush's carefully crafted mystique is built entirely on his manufactured masculinity. In fact, the Republican Party has based its whole image upon the idea that they are the party of macho straight men and the fawning traditonal women who love them. They have spent the last 35 years impugning the manhood of every male Democrat and portraying every Democratic feminist as a manhating bitch --- and winning the national security issue pretty much on the basis of what that implied to their bigoted neanderthal base. It never ends. Back in the day it was "I can't tell if you're a boy or a girl with all that hair." Just last year they spent hundreds of millions of dollars convincing a large number of people that a documented war hero (and killer) was a mincing, vacillating "Frenchman." What do you think that that was all about?

I've always believed that one of the main reasons Clinton frustrated them so much was that his womanizing protected him from the ongoing gay-baiting subtext of the Republican appeal. It took one of their most potent arrows out of the quiver. The best they could do was call Hillary a dyke.

Every time the Republicans are called upon to squeal "don't ask don't tell" when asked about JimJeff Gannon, it puts another hairline crack in their coalition. Don't ever think that this does not affect them. It goes to the very essence of who they portray themselves to be.

10. "[W]hen will the country...[f]igure it out?"
A: Never. It's pretty apparent that 90+% of those who voted for GW are not so adept at the necessary "figgerin'."
:silly:

13. I still think this story has more room to "grow." Other shoes will drop..
We still don't know what Guckert was doing all those years before he was a "court reporter" in Delaware. We don't have a definte ID on whether he served in the military and where he was born...Is Gukert his real name or another alias.

There's so much we don't know about him. Plus the ties into Eberle...the Escort Service....

Tons there. But the "homo-erotic" part does scare the shit out of these people because of the "names" he might reveal. And, we know that DC is still filled with the folks from Poppy's Administration who were involved with another "Escort Service." Many never left and those who did were brought back by Chimp/Cheney.

We have to keep on this. And, there are enough blogs to do it now. Drudge and Newsweek aren't the only "games in town" anymore.

16. Interesting. This must be part of
the Chimp's plan to "bring decency back into the White House." Monica did it for free, but this guy does it for a living.

with their guns and NRA memberships. :eyes: I remember once Malloy was talking about the gun thing and he was going on in a sarcastic way that the liberals were going to take their guns and stuff. lol.

2. correct AND brilliant
It's a glimmer of hope on a blue monday. I cannot believe the MSM is really going to try to ignore the fornicating elephants in the living room. My mantra for today:
"Don't ever think that this does not affect them. It goes to the very essence of who they portray themselves to be."

4. the answer from a born again literalist extremist is that
they love the sinner, but hate the sin.

See? That means they can accept and even love the homosexual in their immediate company, while at the same time lobby to change the Consitution and ban gay marriage.

Covers all bases.

6. That's what they SAY, but people are people and eventually all this
"immoral" conduct (as they see it) is going to wear on them. They "love the sinner", but only to a point, imho!

22. But it isn't loving
if you're denying someone their basic Constiution rights. Banning their rights as a legal US citizen isn't very loving. I remember when a lot of people thought interacial dating was a sin. I bet you if these people were living in the olden years when slavery was around they'd be for it too. :grr: The first ammendment clearly states the government isn't aloud to promote one religion over the other which includes their beliefs and laws. This is America. Not a third world middle eastern country where religion is heavily influenced in their laws. These people need to wake up and realize there is a difference between religion and civil rights.

5. Brilliant thinking, KoKo......
But Bushco seems to be able to get away with near-miraculous levels of
hypocrisy. If the Gannongate info isn't put in the face of all their
gay-hating religious minions, the Bush Administration may get away with
this too.

Goddamned cowardly groveling media!

12. Are you using "girl" as an insult
The behaviors you describe are the pissy antics of an immature child. Not necessarily a boy or a girl, a child of any sex. Why not say he's acting like a little boy? Or is boy nor enough of an insult?

Do you know how much it pisses off many women, myself included, when our legitimate anger is dismissed as being that time of the month?

I thought those attitudes went out in the seventies.

(By the way, I agree with the substance of your post, that Bush is an immature child who always has to get his own way. You just hit one of my hot buttons. Welcome to DU.)

8. If you aren't living a lie, there is no need to put on a show.
We have been watching a completely manufactured drama carefully designed to distract attention from the truth.

When someone is trying so hard to be something, it's usually because he fears he is the opposite.

9. Today's Republican Party is built on lies and hypocrisy.
I do think that this story is relevant and goes to the core of one of their key one issue religious blocks...those people that hate gays and gay rights. If they figure out the hypocrisy, they may leave the coalition of single interest groups that make up this party's base. Doubtful they'll vote Democrat, but they may not bother voting at all or waste their vote on some other religious extremist party.

If this story gets people to think about how Republicans use emotional issues to further their real agenda, maybe there's hope afterall. Time will tell.

I can't wait for my male republican friends to bring up Bush's name. I am going to tell them I finally figured out why they are so attracted to him. That should shut them up.

17. Dirty Little Secret -- Dozens of Gannons in the Administration
It's our duty to make them known to the country. They can no longer continue their power trips while their comrades are determined to destroy the lives of gay people with backward judges and constitutional amendments. The time has come to take a stand.

18. The reference to these actors
as "homosexual, gay, queer, queen, or Mary" is severely grating on my last nerve. They are a *subset* whose roots can be found in Roehm, J.Edgar u.s.w. who would more accurately be described as "*RoyCohns."

19. Good points
And it was strange with all the Kerry French thing. And all of their people "hate" the French and are "boycotting" them and all that, so it only put full in their fire to dislike Kerry even more. I remember reading how on Earth day one year they had to have a photo of Bush with an ax like he was going to cut down a tree (and ya know he didn't do it either). And then all of Bush's macho man talk. From the 9/11 little speech to his "bring it on" nonsense. He's just an actor (and terrible one at that).

Most people will believe it, especially in our brain-washed age of media control.

then "EVERYONE" that the "Propaganda Supports" is totally believable and legitimate...if you are the "Chimp-in-Thief" or a Corporate Whore...or an "Entertainer" sponsored by "any" of the above...:D
