So Rummy offered to resign TWICE! Is this story not HUGE?
Twice last year over Abu Ghraib Rummy offered to resign- I suspect early on, in the winter when the New Yorker article broke it into the mainstream press, and then on May 5th, when Bush expressed disappointment over the torture scandal, after CBS aired the pics.
this means to me that:

1- Bush approves of torture and where Rummy thought he had failed, Bush saw great success. And even if he does not approve, he fails to see where the image of the country and our military has been compromised.

2- Bush cannot recognize mistakes.

3- Bush is afraid to admit mistakes.

This is the great story that the Bush White House kept secret all during the campaign last year. Give them credit for keeping it secret.
Kerry called for his resignation, and Rumsfeld complied.

Bush just decided to stick with incompetence, but being an expert in its practice, one can understand that.
It seems to me this story should be huge.
It is nowhere on the wires right now.

1. Says to me, also: Rumsfeld is full of his usual serving of s**t

If you want to resign, do it. Quit showing up for work. Tell the President: "I understand you want me to stay. I'm still leaving."

His 'revelation' is so f**king self-serving...

NOTE: Censorship of the words 'shit' and 'fucking' are my own

3. Rummy Resigned To Rummy Who Rejected It...
Yeah...Rummy would have been pushed overboard only if it was the obvious that he was hurting Bunnypant's chances for re-selection. He's too tied into the inner circle...the basic infrastructure of how this evil cabal operates, and knows where all the bodies are buried. He's both too valueable and dangerous to let go. It would have only been done as a desperation move.

Coming up with this horsehit now distorts what was happening then. Rummy wasn't going to resign because he was responsible for his actions, it would be cause the polls showed this would be to this regime's benefit.

One day I hope Rummy faces a tribunal in the Hague and finally has to explain his double-speak.

4. No it's not. Why? Because it's part of their stupid propaganda
Machine. If he really wanted to quit, what stopped him?

5. Explain how 'leaking' this is to their advantage.
I see no benefit at all. Please explain.

6. It gives the impression that he feels remorse and wasn't really involved
And the fact that it plays down his role in the PNAC-driven foreign policy.

He's at the heart of all this and there's no way he would resign unless there were some remarkable circumstances.

7. Still doesn't jibe
of course WHY he would even bring this up now is a good question in itself.

9. Uh - have you been following the things that have been coming out
about Guantanamo bay? About latest Abu Garaib testimonies? about Gonzales?

The evidence is mounting every day and the complicity moving upwards.

8. I read something a while back where
Cheney told bush*: No one is resigning over this. Then right after that, buth* went over to the Pentagon and told Rummey what a swell job he was doing.

What difference does it make, I still hate them all. None of them has an ounce of goodness in them.

11. This story is bullshit
If you believe that Rumsfeld offered to resign not once, but twice, I've got the source of this story to point out.

Donald Rumsfeld is the only one saying Donald Rumsfeld offered to resign.

This story is total political CYA. Period.

12. But what is the purpose?
It's a crack in the ship. The vessel has sprung a leak.
The above mentioned possibility that Rummy is seeking to distance himself from Bush sponsored torture makes sense.
