How are you going to deal with Inauguration Week?
Just curious how y'all are going to cope with the upcoming Coronation of King George 2.

My own instinct is to unplug the TV and radio, buy no newspapers, keep the damn computer off and possibly find a cave in the woods to hide in until this week of phony patriotism and self-congratulating mandate-claiming, media-Bush-buttkissing, pundit puking, protest-ignoring, liberal-bashing, Democrat-insulting, "will the terrorists attack?" fear-mongering Pomp and Circumstance is over.

But I know out of morbid curiousity, I'll tune in "just for a minute" and get sucked into it and then get so angry, frustrated and demoralized by all the spew that I'll wish I hadn't.

So I am trying to remind myself -- Willpower, lad. Use your willpower. Just Say No.

What are your coping strategies?

1. I feel the need to wear black in mourning of democracy
Unfortunately I can't make it to DC to protest so I will do it in my own special way

4. No TV, radio
I'll listen to my CDs instead of the radio, and watch TLC and Discovery. I'll come here on the computer, but other than that I'll stick with Law & Order boards and Sam Waterston boards. I'm coming here to find out about protests.

I plan to wear black on Thursday and to not spend any money.

7. Ignore it.
Prove that Bush got no mandate by absolutely wiping it from my mind.

I will watch Olbermann this week and mute it when he talks about the inauguration (I may rethink this, Keith has been known to get some pretty funny jabs in at Shrubo's expense), wear black on the 20th and not spend a dime that day.

8. January 20
I booked a day-long continuing education workshop for January 20 so I wouldn't even be tempted to watch TV. I will take my lunch so I won't have to spend one damn dime that day. I will wear black for mourning, and will wear one of my buttons, probably the "I didn't vote for his daddy, either" one.

but I do know that it won't be healthy at all to pay any attention to it.

It's already starting... CNN just showed the printed orangish tickets to the parade... Said they were the most expensive EVER printed for an inauguration parade. Not sure how much more of this I want to hear anymore. Badgley Mischka luxury gowns, smoking and high-tops, parades, ... during a World War.

All Bush needs is a horse and then the picture will be complete.

11. Will power won't come hard for us
since we don't watch much tv anyway. I am contenting myself with
watching * doing about-faces on gay marriage now and pissing off
his 'morals' crowd and reading the stupid things he says:

"As for perhaps the most notorious terrorist, Osama bin Laden, the administration has so far been unsuccessful in its attempt to locate the mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Asked why, Bush said, "Because he's hiding." http://www.truthout.org/docs_05/011705Y.shtml
Hard to believe the class dunce is in charge of the 'class!'

Truth Out has some excellent reads right now for blue libs. Remember,
Nixon only had one Watergate; Bush has DOZENS of potential Watergates!
History is doomed to be repeated by dumb bunnies who don't learn from
it. Take heart and turn off the television! I predict that people will
be shocked at the wretched excess of the 'coronation' when so many
in this world right now are suffering for the basic necessities of
life. This only makes * look even more like the POS he is.

Oh and, hang out here instead of watching the 'drama.'

12. I'm going to DC
I'll be protesting in DC for a few days which means I'll have to purchase gas and some food (I'll pack a lot though) ... but I heard a really cool idea from a friend called "buy nothing day." I think there's a website about it, but I can't find it.

I suggest stocking up on gas, food, etc. the days before January 20th and that day just don't buy a damn thing.

Also, cry in the corner. The fetal position should be most comfortable.

31. ignore it mostly
Don't spend any money on the 20th. Live my life. Refuse to be diminished by those who are attempting to rob me. Write my Senators (or at least the sane one) reminding them to protect Social Security.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

I plan to spit and hiss and make obscene fun of it all. I plan to diss all those filthy rich people, and to dissMrs Laura Bush's pink awning dress, as well as the bordello outfits of the spoiled, skanky whore like women who are called the "twins". I plan to sneer, and to shout, at the ostentationess of it all--at snakeskin boots, and lizard boots, and leather adornments studded with jewels on the expensive gown of one of the daughter supporters of a war killer and fancy catering, and jewel bedraggled women past their prime hoping to look as though they are really young and attractive. I plan to spit at Cheney and his stupid wife.

I plan to cheer the protestors, and I plan to endulge in a little fantasy that there will be rain and sleet and snow upon them all and their fur coats.

41. Doing what we've been doing all along.
Getting people off their butts for peaceful demonstration in front of our local federal building from the time the swearing in begins until dark.

Bush thinks he has a mandate because, besides the people who voted for him, there are a whole lot of other people who don't care enough to make their sentiments known. This is the most shameful thing the rest of the world sees and notices...that too many people don't care enough to speak out publicly.

Don't just turn off the TV or sit on the computer. Get out there and be seen and heard.

It feels good, too! }(
