WTF is up with the Soc. Sec. propaganda commercials on TV???
I just heard a commercial on TV, stating as fact, all the misinformation about *'s SS privatization plan? I wasn't in the room, so I didn't see who paid for it, but this isn't normal is it? Well, at least before 2000? The only other major legislation I remember I've heard of having advertisements (supporting the WH) was back in the 1990's for the bill that either deregulated or enacted pointless regulations on dietary supplements (and medicine) that allows everything like the legal steroids and whatever else to be sold w/out FDA approval? I heard that lobbyists had a major advertising campaign w/TV commercials talking it up.

:wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

2. I heard a lot of money has been budgeted to spread their lies about SS.
I'm sure investment firms would be happy to fork over the money.

11. Oh...I'd guess not.
I'm betting it's taxpayer funded "edumacation" courtesy of GWB.

4. all part of the plan.
the repubs get their biggest success when they play divide and conquer. What better way then pitting the population - between young and old. The "lets work for the common good" (true Christians, new deal democrats) vrs. the "its all about me, baby" (hard right Christians, any repub, libertarians). The best outcome, in their minds is privatization of SS, vrs. the worst outcome, new YOUNG republicans. IMHO

5. Well, there is a campaign to investigate government PR payola
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 03:53 PM by Robbien
but there seems to be very little interest here in GD. Why should they stop all the propaganda if no one complains?

Williams was paid to push No Child Left Behind and the FreePress has a petition to investigate. There was a fair amount of interest in LBN, but only one GD DUer signed on. Link to petition:

If petitions are not your thing, there is a link to ask Commissioner Cob of the FCC to investigate

6. They feel emboldened to drop the subtle shit...
And full steam ahead with the outright propaganda.

No, I do not recall ever seeing ads like this outside of the normal run-up to an election. Just for kicks the other night I flipped between all three network news and PBS. All 4 gave the dire prediction about the looming crisis - White House Verbatim and zero Dem or any opposing viewpoint. So now it's into commercials. I expect the next step would be to interject their propaganda into TV programs, movies and sporting events. Oh wait, that's already happening isn't it?

I fear soon I may walk into a hospital or a grocery store or the mall and see giant flat screen panels with Busholini yammering on every wall like in that Twilight Zone episode.

8. Of course not, but then the Old USA is dead and gone
The asheap of history, a fate which the Old American Republic most surely did NOT deserve and for which we are all to blame.

The New Amerika, Bushistan, is a very Soviet or Nazi-like state in terms of propaganda style and technique without (for the moment) the savage wholesale brutality of those regimes.

Thus you would expect State Propaganda to make it's appearence, even if it is brought to the fore under the laughably illusory "Free Market" which under BushPutinist Crony Capitalism of the Third-World Variety is ANYTHING but Free (like the rest of Imperial Amerika).

This is an entirely consistent with the evolution of Imperial Amerika from what it was to what it will be.

A very old story that has recurred in many nations in a many different eras.

12. Several reports on cabel news that both sides are going to do ads.
Shrubco is doing them because too many Americans don't like his plan, and the opposition is doing them to point out the lies in the Shrubco plan.

The big difference is, Shrubco's ads are being paid for out of taxpayer funds.

14. Just look at the stock market today.
There is nothing more comforting than a steady (albeit modest) retirement check. One not depending on fluctuations in the market. Anyone who wants to invest in stocks should be able to do on their own. Educating the working men and women about investment and money management would make more sense. Then let them decide. Isn't this what the Republicans tell us about healthcare insurance?
