Something IS happening... Jerry Springer...
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 09:13 AM by Dawgs
Clear Channel is obviously seeing something that should be a real benefit to our cause. Maybe it is all about making money to them.

I really don't care that much about Jerry Springer as a radio talk show host... I just care that progressive stations continue to show up on a national stage. No, it's not quite as fast as we'd like, but at least we are finally getting something we've desperately needed. Like it or not, we have been defined by Rush, Hannity, and the rest of right-wing media. Most americans don't realize why being a "liberal" is bad(even though it's not), they have just been programmed to believe it to be true. We still have a ways to go I know, but we can get there. If we keep up the chatter, slowly we can start to reach those former democrats who have gone over to the dark side.

It doesn't matter that we all like Ed Schultz, Randi Rhodes, Jerry Springer, or Al Franken. What matters is that they give us a voice on the national stage. It might not feel like it, but we are already starting to define ourselves. Look at the word 'Progressive'. I have been hearing it used more and more when describing our cause. Most Americans have never heard this term. It's a positive one that WE are using to define ourselves.

1. Amen. This can only be a good thing.
And anyone who disagrees will get a faceful of folding chair.

2. clear channel recently brought a progressive AM station online in my area
in asheville NC we have 880 AM now, it is pretty much air america radio except ed shultz is on during drive time not randy rhoads (sp?).

so yeah, clear channel believes there is money to be made.

it is quite refreshing to hear something on the AM dial besides rush limabaugh.

5. AAR in Portland is ClearChannel as well.
they went from rock bottom to #1 in the ratings, so I don't think they're complaining.

3. Springer will be great.
ever hear him discuss politics? not on his trashy show, but as a pundit. But even his trashy show has a healthy dose of populism (and plenty of arguments for pro-choice).

6. I'm sure he will be... I heard him on AAR this morning...

He sounds nothing like what you see on his tv(freak) show. He will definitely be made fun of for the first few months(by the RW media), but look at the other side. They have been putting out drug addicts, sex addicts, and criminals for years.

4. It's about time.
There's a whole country out there that refuses to drink the conservative Koolaid. Now maybe Rush will have some real ratings competition. His act is old and his ranting and shilling for Bush and the GOP is becoming laughable.

8. Great point..
I think Clear Channel sees that Rush's act is old as well. They finally realized that half of the country has been dying for hosts that speak to the other side.
