A sign of change ?
I am happy to see that Bush changed his hardened heart and decided to send 350 million dollars and Colin Powell and Jeb Bush to Asia.
Maybe 2005 will be a sign of the world changing back for the better.

One can only hope. Nevertheless it is a great way to start the New Year knowing that this has happened. And hopefully everyone in the world will have a much better 2005.

Happy New Year everyone.

1. It's all a lie. All of that money will never get there. Demand proof.

2. ROFL you're kidding right?
Sending Jeb and Colin helps ?how? exactly?

and I'll believe the $$$$ when I see it, they haven't sent the AIDS cash to Africa or the earthquake $$ to Iran either

they are the masters of "Say whatever it takes to get the heat off, then forget about it as soon as the spotlight moves on"

4. Watch how the money is disbursed.
I'll bet it goes through Bush's favorite faith based organizations. They'll be applying Republican trickle down economics to getting the aid out. If 10% of that money finds it way to direct aid, I'll be surprised.

Republicans are masters at this stuff. They get the positive PR on the announcement, then the money will vanish into the unaccountable ether.

5. Hey everyone
First --In response to that -for me I will never knock the fact that someone realizes they are wrong and does what they can to show their heart has a pulse. Also I am happier still to see that we the people do make a difference in changing the hardened hearts. Sending Jeb Bush and Colin powell their shows that the Administration does care. I will not question the motives because I would rather see them show they care than not.

That said.

I am heading for the city and I want to just wish you all a Happy New Year.
You are all the best.

I guess I should believe Shrub when he said he might consider civil unions, right?

edit: He doesn't even give a damn about Americans, let alone anybody else.

9. I think that's what's most significant: that people's voices still matter.
I hadn't thought of it that way. All the voices pressuring them to act at least made some difference in their actions, no matter how big or small. (And whether or not it represents a change of heart.)

And that is heartening to know. Thank you for pointing it out, Vinnie. And happy New Year to you too.

10. vinnie, vinnie, vinnie -
Edited on Fri Dec-31-04 04:25 PM by peacebird
let me say this slowly and carefully - bush always announces grand schemes and big dollars to needy causes, and once everyone has gone ga-ga heaping praise on him and the photo op is over, somehow his administration conveniently "forgets" to actually send the money. Or sends it with so many strings attached that it is unusable.

pay close attention to the follow through.

remember the big stink about helping aids victims in Africa, and even Bono came out teary eyed over bush's generosity... tell me - how much money have the needy in Africa actually received?

remember our own NYC after 9/11? bush promised big money to help the city and first responders. they are still waiting for it, oh - and by the way it was a wee bit "cold-hearted" of him to insist that the EPA lie about air quality at ground zero thus putting civilians and rescue workers at risk for no good reason.

from the SFGate:

"The White House "convinced EPA to add reassuring statements and delete cautionary ones" by having the National Security Council control EPA communications, the inspector general's report found."
snip
"In the two years since the attack, thousands of New Yorkers have contacted the World Trade Center health registry, reporting cases of persistent coughs, wheezing, shortness of breath and sinus inflammation.

A year ago, the New York Fire Department reported that up to 500 employees may have to retire early as a result of respiratory disability or chronic breathing problems caused by their exposure to dense clouds of dust, smoke and fumes at the site.

Cahill's first report in 2002, based on 8,000 air samples collected a mile from the complex, found high levels of very fine airborne particles that could increase risk of lung damage and heart attacks."

so much for bush's good "heart", eh?

13. You could say it slowly
but what if I read it quickly?
Maybe you could piece it in different posts slowly.
Either way I am guessing you are saying I am slow. Yes I am not as intelligent as some and I know we are all once bitten twice shy--but I welcome any good -- maybe I am naive.
Hope you had a great New Year's Eve.

8. he hasn't sent one dime of the relief money
he promised to Iran for the massive Bam earthquake last year, so it doesn't matter if he tells them he'll empty what's left of the US treasury. Chances are they'll never see it.

Bypass the son of a bitch. Donate directly.

11. That idiot MAY send that money. M-A-Y. MAY.
Then again, he PROBABALY will not - since that is his record so far.

Why do people like you continually give these criminal the "benefit of the doubt?

Based on every fucking this this immoral asshole has done, I don't think they'll see more than leftover chump change.

80 BILLION at the drop of a hat for his favorite pet project - HIS illegal war OF CHOICE - but he has to wrestle with an amount that is appropriate for hundreds of thousands of victums.

He hasn't changed at all.

Same talk.

Same lack of "walk".

All hat and no cattle for this phoney "cowboy".

I'm sick of cowboys.
