Justice Denied - The Kirstin Lobato Story
Edited on Sat Dec-04-04 05:59 PM by silverweb
I'm sure many of you are already familiar with Kirstin Lobato's case, but for those of you who are not, you'll find this fascinating reading:

http://campaign.justice4kirstin.com/index.html

http://www.justicedenied.org/issue/issue_26/kl/kirstin_lobato_jd_issue26.html

Kirstin has won the right to a new trial, but even if she finds an attorney willing to handle her case pro bono, she is facing a minimum of $30,000 in court-related expenses. Her friends and supporters have set up a legal defense fund and are asking for donations. I know times are tough for most of us right now, but even if we each send a small amount to help, Kirstin's fund should soon reach its goal. The horror of being railroaded for a crime one did not commit has to be among the most terrifying and humiliating experiences of a lifetime. It would be a wonderful thing to see Kirstin get her new trial and finally see justice in her case.

I know that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of people in prison for crimes they did not commit and we cannot hope to help them all, but I hope enough people will be motivated to enable at least this one young woman win her life back.

A good friend of mine is very personally involved in this case and has provided the following information for the fund:

If you are interested in making a donation to aid Kirstin in her fight for justice, please either use PayPal or send a cashier's check or money order to the address below:

Kirstin Lobato Legal Defense Fund
PO Box 36442
Las Vegas, NV 89133

To get to the PayPal link, go to the main page of justice4kirstin.com, click the link marked "Justice Campaign," and when that page comes up, click the "Donate to Fund" choice in the upper left-hand corner. A PayPal page comes up that is specific for the defense fund.

Mods: This was originally posted in the Justice forum, where it got practically no attention at all. I hope you don't mind my reposting here, where it should get more notice. :)

Edited to fix broken link.

1. Ummm, there's no story on that site...
I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA who she is or what has happened to her - Because the site you provided a link to does not have the story.
It just has a bunch of fundraising and transcripts links.

How about a link to the ACTUAL story?

(I think that would help if people knew what this was about.)

I tried the second link and it didn't work.

So what is this about?

3. Link is fixed now.
I'm sorry about that. I just copied and pasted from the Justice forum post and didn't check the link. It works now.

5. Thanks- I just read the version on the 'Angelfire' site...
You know when someone says,"stranger things have happened."?

This is one of those 'stranger things'.

This does not surprise me to hear about detectives and prosecutors who are more interested in a conviction than they are of solving a crime.

This is one of the reasons I hate humans - they are so small-minded and ignorant they let shit like this happen... hell, they make it happen.

It sucks that this is always about money.

6. Yes, it does.
Kirstin was the one wronged, yet she has to raise tens of thousands of dollars for a new trial to seek exoneration. That is wrong!! The same people who railroaded her should also be made to pay to remedy their wrong. I hope that after she wins aquittal, she sues the pants off them!

And this thread is getting no attention at all?

*sigh*

I must say, I'm disappointed.
