Is Howard Dean Now the Front Runner For DNC Chair?
That was the group think assertion on CNN: CROSSFIRE just now, since Vilsack is officially out.

Will Howard Dean be swept office, or will some new Harry Reid sponsored candidate come out of the woodwork to challenge him?

1. Absolutely impossible to say
The choice of party chair is impossible to predict. The voters are all fairly slippery, wanting to hop on board with whomever will actually win, so that they don't fall out of favor. It's an extremely Machiavellian world, and the DNC Chair will go to whoever plays their cards the best.

Offhand, given his open personality, my guess is that that person won't be Howard Dean.

3. We'll know if Lieberman, Bayh, and the rest start frothing and whining.
I can't imagine the Democratic "leadership" allowing someone with backbone and principals like Dean to assume the chair. Might upset the "moderates" don't you know.

4. I would be surprised if Dean gets it
He and the DNC didn't get along so well during the primaries. However, I would love it if he did. We could really use a leader for the Democratic party that fights for what they believe in, even if I don't agree with all of his positions.
