Who else is Cable News Free?
I am "sober" 15 days now, life could not be better!

If you are still "using" you are doing yourself a great disservice.

boycott the bastards

I've been clean for 2 years.

I used to watch everyday for hours. I'd watch while cooking, while eating, and while browsing the web. I was shameless.

Then I discovered Democracy Now, and made the long trip out of that cable news propaganda nightmare world, one day at a time.

Now where's the coffee?

27. I called time warner to cancel and go to basic service and
they were supposed to come between 7:30 and 10:00 to pick up my digital boxes. I took the morning off to wait and of course they did not show up! Boy was I pissed. I called and told them to make sure they notated my account that effective that day I was only paying for basic service.

When I originally called to cancel my service they tried to talk me into keeping it by offering me a special price. I said No, it isnt' the price, it's the media I'm boycotting. The CSR did not know how to respond.

I'm sure gonna miss The Daily Show.

35. I never bothered with cable
and have only been exposed to the drivel during visits to my father in Florida.

I'm now network news free for 2 weeks, and yes, that includes the BBC World broadcasts on PBS. That frosty blonde traveling with Bush and gushing all over him every night before the election did it for me.

I don't kid myself that it's useful to know what trash the morons in this country are asked to digest every night on the news. It's right wing, corporatist poison, and I don't need it in my life.

I'll get my news online, thanks. That includes the weather forecast.

The Simpsons comes on opposite the news here, and I find them much more informative than the drool coming out of the blow dried bobbleheads on the television.

64. No cable news since Dec 2000, no network since 96
The theft of 2000 did it for me for cable. I looked briefly around 9/11/01. But as it became a Bush love fest afterwards I couldn't stomach it. I left the networks during Clinton's 2nd term as they chased every rumour and lie about him. I can sometimes stomach the NYT and the WSJ for general news but prefer the Guardian, the Financial Times, Le Monde, and the Economist now.
