Cultural disconnect
When I grew up, I was taught to be a good person. I was taught to be considerate of others - not to judge without walking a mile in their shoes. I thought everyone should be equal. I was taught that equal opportunities for all were one of the cornerstones of an enlightened society that treasured life, the pursuit of happiness and freedom. I was taught that violence was bad. Criminal law enhanced these beliefs, this culture....but now....

But now, with ever growing media programs that celebrate dirty underhanded techniques to screw the other guy before he screws you ( a variety of "reality tv") with the current political process, with the growing intolerance of other persons viewpoints, lifestyles etc - I can't help feeling a growing schizm of disconnectedness. The good guys finish last in today's culture. Those that play by the rules, work hard, be fair to all - these are the great losers in today's society. Individuals that are caught in criminal offences are punished for their wrongdoing, but corporations, governments are rewarded.

It is getting harder and harder to teach my son the same ethics that I grew up with. Am I a dinosaur soon to be extinct for actually thinking that to be good IS good, and to be bad should not be rewarded???? Thoughts anyone?
