5. Can someone explain to me how the GAO has managed to stay
out of the reach of the GOP? The Republicans have gutted everything else that stood in its way, how did the GAO escape their obliteration?

6. Well, I guess maybe we will find out if they have or not....
The GAO does have a lot of respect as an objective body, though. They are auditors, and auditors tend to be pretty hard-nosed about the facts.

8. Remeber when the GAO dropped it's lawsuit against Cheney's
energy meetings because the administration threatened to cut their budget? Does that sound like they are independent?
