Re-branding the other side
Okay, I am tired of hearing the extreme right wing define words and phrases like "moral", "family values", and "reform" (this list is endless.) We need to start on our own branding campaign.

First, I am going to start referring to these people as the "Regressives." It's easy, it indicates an opposite to "Progressive" and (to me anyway) it conjures up the notion that they are truly trying to build a bridge backwards to the nineteenth century. It also isn't personal (I have never liked the phrases "Repukes" or "Rethugs" - they are about on a par with people referring to as by condescending names.)

Any other ideas for my branding project?

3. I absolutely agree
we've made a good start in the last year by taking back the word "liberal." It is a wonderful word with a beautiful meaning and I am a PROUD LIBERAL.

Now we need to start taking back the language even more. This was very deliberate on their part and they started this years ago.

I like the regressives. It's pretty apt, too.

6. We are the Moral Left.
Let's start calling ourselves progressives instead of liberals. I dare the Republicans to make a bad word out of progressive.

Pro-woman.

Pro-child.

Pro-family (when talking about the nuclear and other forms of family).

Pro-marriage (when talking about marriage for both heterosexuals and homosexuals).

I need a word to describe how we're in solidarity with the world that doesn't like Bush. Somebody come up with one. Pro-world? Pro-communication? Anti-fear mongering?

pro-social justice.

pro-equality.

pro-Canada. LOL.

Anti-hate (but that only goes for leftists that don't provoke hate towards the other side just for being what they are).

Pro-tolerance.

Diverse (because most Republicans are white and probably male southerners).

Social Democrats (for those who are like Socialists).

Fair Capitalists (for those Capitalists who simply think that we need some major reforms in Capitalism instead of getting rid of it).

7. And they are "enforced pregnancy advocates".
(I can't take credit for that one. It came from a Planned Parenthood video.)

That same video laid out the case that recriminalizing abortions would mean "women will die". I think that angle could be a decent way to counter the charge that liberals view abortions as birth control. It's the Republicans that want to let rape victims die from unsterile procedures, so they are anti-life.

Maybe that's too negative. You've got a good positive list here. Defining ourselves in contrast to the opposition is a sound strategy.
