Message from Howard Dean
sorry if this is a dupe... but I think folks need to read this:

What You Won't Hear on TV Today
Governor Howard Dean sent this message to Democracy for America supporters today.

Montana, one of the reddest states, has a new Democratic governor.

First-time candidates for state legislatures from Hawaii to Connecticut beat incumbent Republicans.

And a record number of us voted to change course—more Americans voted against George Bush than any sitting president in history.

Today is not an ending.

Regardless of the outcome yesterday, we have begun to revive our democracy. While we did not get the result we wanted in the presidential race, we laid the groundwork for a new generation of Democratic leaders.

Democracy for America trained thousands of organizers and brought new leadership into the political process. And down the ballot, in state after state, we elected Dean Dozen candidates who will be the rising stars of the Democratic Party in years ahead.

Tens of millions of us are disappointed today because we put so much of ourselves into this election. We donated money, we talked to friends, we knocked on doors. We invested ourselves in the political process.

That process does not end today. These are not short-term investments. We will only create lasting change if that sense of obligation and responsibility becomes a permanent part of our lives.

Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."

We will not be silent.

Thank you for everything you did for our cause in this election. But we are not stopping here.

Governor Howard Dean, M.D.

21. How about February 2000 ?
I wish to God he hadn't been involved in 2000, to say nothing of 2004.

17. This is NOT what I want to see -- this is disaster, in fact
Why? Because he's far, FAR more valuable outside the system, so to speak. Put him in that job and he'll be silenced. He'll be absorbed into it. I don't think he'll ever give up his own values, but he sure will be rendered mute -- and moot.

I do NOT want to see Dean at the DNC. Give it to John Edwards or Wesley Clark. Or ANYbody else.

20. The DNC chair is an organizational position.
It's the top operative in the party. Edwards and Clark on not skilled enough for that job. Dean is.

6. I really didn't like him as a presidential candidate, but I really do like
him as a Democrat. He certainly should be the guy to head the democratic party.

19. ANd "clear and decisive" were certainly things Bush hawked
about himself. Seems a lot of the electorate was keen on that too, even if decisively WRONG.

7. Bob Dylan
"he not busy being born is being dying" ...

i loved Dean's line: "these are not short-term investments" ... i've been using the phrase that we need to be a movement not a campaign; a marathon not a sprint ...

13. Dean's message kept me sane today
When I read it, as Dean has always done, I stopped being so down and depressed for a moment and realized that we must continue the fight.

16. to give up is what's expected of us.
I say fight on, get over the loss of this election, four years of this mis administration will be the four years America will be haunted by forever. We have the people, we just didn't have the nutz to go head to head on the lies and that has to change. It's time to change the demeanor of the Democratic Party and if the leaders don't have what it takes, it's time to change the leaders. I ain't leaving, I love my country and served to defend it. Stand up and be PROUD>

And I see he still loves us. He's not giving up so neither should we. Let's keep the organizing going folks.

Come out tonight to a meetup near you. Meet some old friends or some new ones. Take solace with friends and keep working toward a better future.
