Friday we can make a statement felt across this nation.

I am devastated by this loss. I live in Oklahoma. We lost the senate race, overwhelmingly voted to assign gay people second class status, and voted to re-elect George W. Bush. I am representative of millions of my fellow Americans who did not and will not support this fucked up administration.

I am not going to attack Kerry or hold it against him. America has spoken and this is their choice. My first response was fuck America! Fuck these hateful homophobic, racist, evangelical people. We deserve the government we get and now we will reap the whirlwind for what we have sown. I was ready to leave this country. A country I have served in uniform. A country I once loved and had great hopes for. I still love America but I am sorely disappointed in the majority of her people.

But slowly, a plan is forming in my mind. We can't sit back and let the hopelessness of this situation overwhelm us. We can't give up on our democracy. We will not be marginalized by a razor thin majority who thinks we are less than they; less moral, less patriotic, less valuable.

We are an integral part of this society and we can change it in the next four years.

Here is how:

Part one of this plan is to show this country our intrinsic value. We make up half of this country. We overwhelmingly make up the work force, the middle and lower classes. We are the grunts who make this country's economy function. We are the plumbers, mechanics, retail workers, nurses, teachers, union workers, state, city and federal employees. We are the backbone of this country and we can shut it down.

I have been told by conservatives that we are not Americans. We are not important and we should all leave this country if we don't like it. Some have said we should be forced out as we are traitorous and unpatriotic. You are with us or against us.

Well, let's see how fulfilling their wish would affect this country. I am calling for a nationwide sick out. Let's see how well America functions for one day without the hard work of democrats, moderates and liberals.

Friday is the day. Call in sick. Don't go to work. We are going to use Blue Flu to make a one day point. If we could get just 1/2 of one percent of the people who voted against Bush to take a sick day we could show America and conservatives how fucked they would be without us.

I hope DU members will support this idea by spreading it out across the net and doing it themselves. One day of sacrifice to make a point is not too much to ask.

I like the old saying, "You don't know what you have got until it's gone." On Friday, America could learn the true value of hard work and common Americans but only if we make it happen.

If you can't take a day off work, how about a national boycott of all retail establishments. No fast food. No gas. No shopping. Buy nothing from the corporate entities that are truly running our country.

What do you say DU? Are you up for some economic disobedience.

That is part one of my two part plan. Part two is much more detailed and complex but if it is initiated in the next four years, we can and will take our country back definitively, decisively and without any question.

Stay tuned DU. Don't give up. Don't give in.

p.s. to the Freepers: Fuck you all. Stay out of our faces because we will kick your ass. You are cowards and liars. You won by hurting our country and now you will reap the destruction you have enabled. I am not crying. I am plotting your obsolescence.. Again, fuck you all.

8. I don't have very much more to cut out....
I don't work outside my home, and I don't (can't) buy that much these days, so I'm trying to think how I might downgrade my consumerism even more. No trips to the store or post office, is about all I can come up with. But I'm with you in spirit, and hope lots of people take you up on this. Everyone suddenly got sick and can't come in ... yeah, that's it. ;) See what happens when the government bungles access to flu shot vaccines? How will anyone prove otherwise?

9. I really like your idea especially
the idea to not spend.. What if this boycott could be ongoing for a certain day everymonth...since it takes time to get a message to spread if it was repeated the same day everymonth more and more people would hear about it and participate...

24. Monthy "no spend" day - I like it!
How about the first Saturday of every month? Easy to remember, and a day that would make a big economic impact, because lots of entertainment dollars are spent on the weekend. Instead of shopping, eating out, going to the movies, etc., do something free - go to the park, read a book, clean out that room in the basement you've been meaning to get to. Minimal driving if at all possible; exceptions for those who have to work weekends, of course, but they can still skip the stop at the drive-through on the way home. Start spreading it around....

Until we get unity to stand up to them we have no chance of winning. Even if Kerry had pulled it off, we'd have been fighting like hell, We must unite and fight.

It takes time to organize something on a national scale. But it is a start.

16. Too Early - I already took vacation to canvaass, volunteer & vote
HOWEVER we need people like you to organize events that can work and not cost us.

We need to stop thinking like a workers union and start thinking like a political union - Don't take days off to protest - work those extra days to put our money where our mouth is!

19. Good idea but maybe later, consider this....
Remember after the flu vaccine shortage was announced? Well, the official position from the government on TV was if you are sick do not go to work and infect others. I wondered what employers thought of that. So...if this could be planned on a bigger scale, find that information about not infecting others...and use the excuse you think you might have the flu because there wasn't enough flu vaccine and you heard (it might have been the CDC) that you WERE SUPPOSED to stay home. Blame it on Bush.

The economic boycott is good too...but it might hit harder if planned far enough in advance to get more people and let it be known why! (In my humble opinion!)

We have to let our voices be heard and do something!

20. If you can show me how to pay the bills without my job, then I'll listen.
And I mean that in a deep, profound sense. Your proposal offers nothing to anyone and so they are unlikely to hear it.

We'd be better served to spend the day to start working together to build some sort of new system on our own.

22. How about?
How about we go after traditional Democratic issues, like sticking up for the working man, civil rights and health care?

How about we don't put pictures of Che Guevera next to our posts here at the DU?

How about we appeal to the millions of mainstream Democrats out there?

Naw, that'll never work...
