I don't think he'll get to appoint more than two - - replacements for Rehnquist and O'Connor. Stevens is in excellent health and will probably hang on for another four years; he certainly has no intentions of retiring.

The key is the O'Connor replacement, as that's the fifth vote to uphold Roe. I really doubt that the Democrats will allow any idelogue to be confirmed for either that seat or Rehnquist's. In fact, if you remember how things turned out with Souter, things might work out very well if * is forced to select two relative moderates.
