I moved into the Cleveland area in 1989. Just left my home area of Pittsburgh.
First game that counted in the 1989 football season, the Steelers had their asses handed to them by their rivals, the Cleveland Browns, AT HOME IN THREE RIVERS STADIUM. Final score - 51 to nothing. Including back-to-back punt returns by the Browns for touchdowns (Webster Slaughter).
My new co-workers asked me when I was going to start rooting for the Browns.
I came to the conclusion that, if I gave up on my team when they were down, then I was no good as a fan. (The Stillers came back later in the season to even the series).
Since then, the Steelers, with my backing (as much as it really helped), have gone BACK to the Superbowl (and the Browns have yet to go there).
Also, my team has gone from their worst season under Bill Cowher to having defeated the "unbeaten" New England Patriots, stopping their win streak at 21.
We are eyeing up the Eagles, now. Remember, the Stillers were 3 point underdogs against the Patriots. Right now, the Stillers are now 1 point underdogs against the Eagles. If they knock the Eagles off their "perch" (pun intended), I'm calling them "Giant Killers".
My point is this. I AIN'T GIVING UP AND GOING HOME WITH MY TAIL BETWEEN MY LEGS.
I am going to fight harder. (And if that freaks Mrs. zbdent out, TOUGH!)
There's an old saying. That which does not kill us only makes us stronger. Well, I say, that which does not KILL us only serves to piss me off more.
I ain't rolling over for them. I'm fighting, and as I've said before, I'm paying attention.
