The World is Laughing at Us
They're laughing at our sham of a democracy. I keep thinking about the talk of "fair and free elections in Iraq" and we can't even do it here.

This country is unfortunately, at the moment, still too dangerous to be laughed at. We are going to destabalize the world. I just wish there was some way to really let the rest of the world know that people like us (Duer types) are here! We're being marginalized and shut up and pushed aside, but we are here. We believe in freedom and democracy and we know what real freedom and democracy are. We do! We know we're part of the global community. We know we can't go around telling the rest of the world what to do.

49. I think we are about to discover how much "power" we really have...
It won't be so much power as most Americans believe. They are living a fantasy.

Remember when we thought the USSR was a powerful nation? Yes, they had the bomb, but they rotted away from within. The collapse of the Soviet Union was swift; their empire simply crumbled.

We do not have the stregnth to maintain the empire Bush and his supporters have envisioned. I suspect very soon now a nation hostile to us will test us, and we will fail. We will be found wanting for the stregnth and resources to force our way. We will have to compromise, we will have to cut our losses, and perhaps we will have to seek shelter.

The United States is not the strong young man that defeated the Nazis and the Japanese Empire -- we are an old man afflicted with a terrible cancer, dependent upon external resources and dangerous economic medicines for our continued survival.

I am not optimistic about four more years of the Bush Administration. A lot of Bush supporters will be getting their just deserts, but most of them, and most of us, are simply going to be random victims of the calamity.

in Afghanistan and a starved out, sanction beaten nation in the ME, that couldn't put up a fight if it had to.

If we thought we were bad, we would have gone after N.Korea, perhaps Pakistan, or even Saudi Arabia. No... we picked on the kid with the broken arm.

You are going to see just how powerful we are in due time... when half of the country loathes this moron in office, and won't support anything he says or does except by the paying of taxes... and watch the European Union.... I'm thinking they have had just about enough of our shit.

Don't think so? Wait... it will take some time, but it will happen.

Athens Kathimerini (conservative), July 3: Intense reactions have greeted Washington’s unprecedented decision to cut military aid to 35 countries because of their refusal to sign an agreement that would bar the extradition of American citizens to the newly established International Criminal Court. The Bush government clarified that it simply wishes to protect the people who serve in the American army....Washington’s decision, though,...is likely to affect its relations with allied countries.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are about to witness the birth of a new economic and political superpower.

The European Community is about to take the U.S. to the cleaners.

Four more years of isolation and unilateralist policy is going to leave us at a terminal disadvantage.

Edited on Wed Nov-03-04 12:21 PM by sparosnare
I'm still trying to find the right one - whatever it is, it's not a good thing. Maybe it's best to say the rest of the world has been completely let down. This country is supposed to be the example, the beacon of hope for other countries striving to acheive democracy by following in our footsteps. It is too sad to think about.

Maybe the ones who are laughing are the terrorists, those who have vowed to destroy us.

41. As per the BBC World Service early this AM....Blair's Britain, already
rethinking the "special relationship" with the US, is expected to cool this even more.

Norway said it hoped Bush would work better with Europe (FAT CHANCE)

Poland said Bush's election was "good news" since Bush recognized Poland's new role in the world (such as pulling its troops out of Iraq)

Edited on Wed Nov-03-04 12:44 PM by mr blur
And that clown's days are numbered. No amount of back-pedalling now will wipe out the fact that the poodle helped Bush in an unlawful war. The last time Britain and the US had a "special relationship" was between the Evil Hag Thatcher and that bastard Reagan and between the two of them they brought the world to the brink of nuclear war. When the Chimp (or whoever's pulling his strings) decides who to wage war on next then I think he's on his own. Your country has just given him a mandate to do whatever he wants in the name of "Freedom", greed and the good old American Way of Life. I don't suppose that will worry him too much, though - you are, after all, the people God chose to rule the world and the rest of us are just fucking worthless foreigners. I know this is true - I saw it on TV the other night in a BBC report on a bunch of Bush supporters having a lovely little church service in which some right wing lunatic people-hater foamed at the mouth and screamed from the pulpit that the Apocalypse is just around the corner and, when it arrives, gays, left wingers and anyone who wasn't just like him would be doomed.

45. Not laughing at all
I would imagine that they feel shock and amazement at how incredibly stupid and gullible the American people are. They probably feel fear, too, because we've given a madman a clear mandate. And finally, I think they feel hate. For a while, they just hated our leader, now that he's been officially endorsed by the majority of Americans, they're going to hate us.

It's a very sad time to be an American.
