"If NAACP/Kerry registered you, it's illegal to vote" RNC flyer in Ohio
black neighborhoods. McAuliffe mentioned this on This Week - Gilespie denied so McAuliffe presented him with the flyer. Good TV.
He was on Air America now talking about it.

10. And yet there are still people who expect an election result Tuesday night

If the Kerry campaign would like to do something to reduce "election day" unrest, a concerted media blitz to gently explain to their supporters that court cases take time would be a really good idea.

15. A Wager Of One Particular Sandwich, My Friend
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 07:09 PM by The Magistrate
The results will be 52% President Kerry, 47% for the Andover cheerleader, and 1% sundry others, with the final outcome established beyond peradventure by Wednesday morning. The bark of these reptiles is much worse than their bite, poisonous though that bite is....

16. I'm not talking about actual votes, even to escape the dreaded sandwich

Even if all the votes are counted, and reported accurately, and either candidate wins by whatever percentage, there have already been enough irregularities and accusations thereof, from both sides, and legal actions already initiated, again, by both sides.

It is not reasonable to suppose that Tuesday will come and go without others. So the question of "when" has nothing to do with votes cast, in the best and purest of circumstances, unless all parties voluntarily withdraw already filed cases and file no new ones.

17. The truth of what you're saying isn't something people want to hear
It goes against "positive thinking", donchaknow......

Walter Cronkite said it would be early spring before we have the results. I hope he's not right, but I fear he is.

Yet, I posted that here and was virtually tarred and feathered.

"Positive thinking", y'know...... magical thinking will cure all...

For me, I'm glad I heard Mr. Cronkite. I'd rather be prepared for what can happen, rather than being sideswiped by it.

Sorry you're sick....... The stress of the last four years is definitely taking it's toll.

What poor folks are going through with stress is ....... un-frickin'-believable!!!!!

21. Missing ballots, bad ballots, registrations thrown out, observers refused

entry to polling places, letters sent to people who were regged by NAACP telling them they cannot vote legally, on and on.

There may be some shysters, but most of the issues that have been raised are legitimate ones, and if what is desired is an election result that is viewed as legitimate, issues that must be addressed via due process.

Now I may not think this election is so important, and in the context of world events, it's not.

But there are millions of people to whom it is very important, and I don't think it is likely that they are just going to lie down and let it slide. In fact, I think it would not be in the interest either of domestic peace nor the safety of the lawyers were they to even try to withdraw their cases, or refuse to pursue those that will arise on Tuesday.

22. The Gaps Between Candidates' Totals In The Raw Vote Reported, Sir
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 10:44 PM by The Magistrate
Will be sufficient to establish an electoral college majority for President Kerry without reference to these matters. The Republicans will not be able to disenfranchise sufficient people to achieve their goal. Legal aftershocks can have no effect on the election if the resolution of them through court suit directing this or that item be counted or not cannot effect the outcome.

There ought certainly to be legal examination of many things attending this election. There are a number of matters the Justice Department of President Kerry's administration should look into. The Republican apparat has engaged in great deal of open criminality, and trials and convictions will be of benefit to the Democratic Party, and to the body politic at large.

24. While you, sir, are optimistic, others may simply be
indulging in "fear the worst, hope for the best."

I myself prefer to be prepared for the least favorable outcome, rather than be caught napping.

We were burned, and burned badly, four years ago. I think we would be foolish to think suchlike cannot happen again. We will, of course, be glad and grateful if all goes swimmingly, but we will be neither surprised nor shocked if complications arise.

26. The Republican apparat is also engaged in a bid to prohibit any

challenges to be raised by anybody but John Ashcroft.

Do you have such faith in them, that you think they will file no papers, regardless of how many votes for whom are counted?

And this on top of your faith in the honesty and integrity of the Diebold company, AND all the local election officials in every precinct?

Let us assume for the sake of argument, that almost everyone who votes does so for John Kerry, and all of those votes are duly counted and reported and entered into the Chryon at CNN and are visible on the screens of viewers everywhere.

I do not think that would stay the hand of a single courthousebound Republican shyster.

The numbers reported will be sufficient to render the matter clear by Wednesday morning, and the result evident then will be the final one.

28. Unless you have some inside information indicative of more cooperation

between the rival factions, at more levels than either I have frequently suggested, which is unlikely, if you will change the stakes to a chicken tikka burrito with kimchi and that strange Ethiopian squash relish, in other words, a refined and civilized sandwich, regardless of what numbers are or are not reported, you are on!
