They stole our John Kerry Sign.
Edited on Sat Oct-30-04 08:51 PM by Fear
This is a sad moment, our lid up Kerry Edward sign was just stolen from our property (we had a spotlight on it - actually under it) / it made it light up really nicely........now it's gone :(

Shall I call the police for this?, or is that just a waste of time?

1. Randi Rhodes says...
smear your sign with Vaseline and it'll probably stay put.

2. Eh, waste of time...but go get another one! Dont dispair..
They are desperate and will do anything. Steal signs, steal elections..its all they have. Hang around with a baseball bat and take out a kneecap or two if they come back.

17. Make the cops do their job - report it
otherwise they tell everyone they haven't heard anything so it must not be a problem.

23. Problem with that...
You are wasting the time of the cops. There is no value attached to the sign, no witnesses and no evidence.

Report it, yes, but dont have an officer come to your house. See if you can make the report over the phone.

I know this is terrible for you. But, it shows they're getting more desperate!

Try to put up another sign..."SOMEBODY STOLE OUR KERRY / EDWARDS SIGN!"

Good luck!

7. Definitely
call the police.
Then put up another sign, with something nasty on the back.
Along with the "Republicans stole my Kerry sign." sign.
And load your shotgun with rock salt.

That way they might make a report!

:spank:

"Godless Communists stole my Kerry/Edwards sign!!!

9. We've replaced ours
four times, and the neighbor's five times. The cops want us to call each time they're stolen.

We use Tanglefoot instead of vasoline. Makes a sticky mess that doesn't wash off easily - particularly from those nice leather Lexus seats where the signs likely are thrown.

10. Get/make a bigger one
And since you have it floodlit, train a video camera on it. (hook it up to your VCR, because you can get a 9 hour tape).

Vaseline is good, "Dykem Hi-Spot Blue" is better. Its designed to transfer, and I can personally attest to the longevity of the dye on skin. (talk to machine shops to get some - its used when assembling close fitting parts. It was also used (back when telephones came in black, black and black, and there were actual american tool and die makers) to give the shop foreman "blue ear syndrome".)

Yes, let the police know, understanding they can't do anything, and send the usuall "steal my sign, but you won't steal my vote" LTTE to the local paper. Won't get printed before the election, but...

12. coolest thing happened
All 3 of my signs (K/E plus 2 local Dems) were stolen week before last.

Then last Saturday I was walking out of the house when an SUV turned the corner & parked in front of my house. A guy jumped out and said, "I noticed your Kerry sign was taken. Would you like another one?" And he gave me his last "extra" out of the back.

Wasn't that the coolest thing?

Sign is still there. :)

I thought the guy who made the homemade sign that said. You can steal my kerry / edwards sign but you can't steal the election was clever.

20. the cayenne idea doesn't wash in Cajun country
I'd be afraid someone would eat my sign!

Ours hasn't been stolen, but I second the motion to call the Police. It is after all a felony. Then put up a much larger sign and train a video camera on them.

19. How about this..
I know this has probably been suggested before, go get the electrified fence wire they have for dogs. Hide/insulate the wire going to the sign. And then run the perimeter of the sign. Have their own screams be your alarm.

21. Definitely call the police. We need to document this!
I'm serious. Everybody across the country who is having signs stolen or vandalized should be reporting each and every incident. Let the authorities know the extent of this problem. Let them get irritated by having to fill out so much paperwork. It might start a ripple of disapproval that puts an end to this unpatriotic, fascist behavior.

24. Kerry Signs
We have had our Kerry sign up since early September. Every time I come home, I expefct it to be gone, but so far, so good!

We took it down last night for Halloween and put a sign in our window instead. We will replace it tomorrow morning.
