Help! I don't have current ID to vote...
I just moved and my driver's license has my old addy on it. I can change it online but I need a PIN and it takes 7-10 days to receive it, which obviously I don't have. Nonetheless, I can change it on Penn DOT's files but not on my DL. I don't want to have to show ID at the polls and then be turned away because the address isn't current.

Can I just go to the DL place that takes the photos and request a new one with my current address on it? Anyone know how that works?

Since I'm only 21, the only other thing I have that possibly shows my residence is a credit card bill, but other than that...

Please help!

4. What State
a gas bill, bank statement etc. with your name and address on it should do, if you live in the same town, just go vote in your precinct.

2. Check the PA Secretary of State website.
In Minnesota, a driver's license with your old address plus a utility bill with your current address is enough.

Are you regsitered where you currently live?

Anyway, check the rules at the PA Secretary of State website.

3. CHECK YOUR STATE"S WEBSITE
but in Wisconsin, a bill with your addy on it is all you need. You can also take a friend, who will verify who you are and where you live. BUT CHECK YOUR STATE'S WEBSITE (I know, I'm repeating myself)... And print up the rules that you are following, so in case the poll worker doesn't know the correct rules, you'll be able to whip out your documentation. And have your state's election board's phone number with you.

5. If you have something showing your permanent address ...
plus your old license and (if it's not on your license) verification of your SSN, you should be okay.

Just to be safe, why don't you call your local Board of Elections tomorrow and find out what you'll need? They should be able to tell you exactly what identification is required, and whether it's essential that your photo ID show your current addy.

6. Do you have a utility bill?
I don't think you have to show a picture ID, unless PA's laws are strict. Here in NC, a recent utility bill is quite sufficient.

If you just moved into a new place, you should have a phone, gas, electric, etc., bill somewhere. If not, go to one of the utilities and have them print one up for you.

7. Do you have a lease or mortgage statement with your name
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 11:29 PM by Pirate Smile
and new address on it? They may also take a utility bill in your name with your address on it - electricity, gas, etc.

edit - sorry, now I read the full statement which says you don't have any of these.

Call the county auditor or election official and ask.

8. Simple...

Just go to your local Dept of Motor Vehicles and get your new license. Might take a few hours of waiting (depending on where you live) but you'll need a new license anyway and you surely don't want to miss the vote! BTW, when you do go to get your new license take along some proof of residence with you, like a utility bill or rental receipt.

BTW, you ARE already registered to vote where you live now, aren't you?

18. Exactly.
Take some time out your day and get a new license at the DMV. As long as you are already registered to vote, you should be all set once you get your new license.

9. Can't you go to the DMV ...
and get a new (updated) license right away? If not, do you have county ID cards in your state? We do in mine and you can get those the same day.

Why not call your the state Division of Elections and explain the situation to them? They should be able to advise you on the right thing to do.

Good luck! :-)

I just updated my DL address online like 5 minutes ago. I've lived where I'm at now for almost 3 years, but never got around to changing the address until I thought about all the voting weirdness (I live in Utah, so how likely is that?). All the online thing told me to do was write the new addy on the back of my license, which I did. I am going to bring some check stubs and bills, just in case, so perhaps you could bring some bills from your new address such as utilities, which would work since they are accepted as proof of residence in many other instances.

12. I'm in PA, and...
Yes, I am registered to vote where I live now. My old address is still on my DL.

Since I am just 21, and I live with the 'rents, I have basically nothing such as a utility bill, rent, etc. My bank statement came last week but not thinking I'd need it I shredded it and it's long gone.

Maybe I could go to my bank though and get a statement (they're usually like $2 for another)? Or if I could just get a whole new license?

14. Call the office of your county's supervisor of elections and ask them what

to do.

I've been voting since 1968 and have never had to show any ID once I was registered in a precinct. They do always compare your signature on the form you fill out at the polls to the signature they have on file and ask if you live at the same address but that's it.

HOWEVER, this year I will be damned sure to have my driver's license and maybe my passport with me. With lots of new voters, they may card everyone.

I just moved and my drivers liscence has my old address on it. I renewed my registration to vote though and got the thing back in the mail so my name should be on the list here.

16. Yes, but...
I did the same, but if they ask for ID for either one of us, we have no proof we live in the county in which we're voting. I'm sure I'm legally on the rolls and all, but for all they know I registered 16 different places.

Basically, I;m worried because I have no proof I now live where I do. I did get my Voter Reg Card, but that doesn't really verify I live where I do.

20. College forms
The stuff that says you're registered, loan apps, that stuff should have address on it. That and your DL should be enough.
