Yesterday around the Reflecting Pool on the Mall in DC

World War II veteran Turk Aroun, 78, of Los Angeles walks among the more than 1,100 flag draped coffins representing American service men and women killed to date in the invasion and occupation of Iraq (news - web sites) as part of a tribute demonstration at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, October 23, 2004. The tribute, hosted by the Iraq War Memorial Coalition and 1,000 Coffins.org, also included a reading of the soldiers' names, followed by the playing of Taps. REUTERS/Greg Whitesell

Selene Hunter, 64, of Boston, Massachusetts, reads 14 of the more than 1,100 names of the soldiers who have lost their lives in the Iraq (news - web sites) war, at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, October 23, 2004.

4. The power of these photographs
is all you need to understand why Bushco does everything it can to keep us from seeing the coffins. This is overwhelming.

8. Before I rant,
were ANY major media there to cover this? CNN?, MSNBC?, FAUX?, CBS?, ABC?, CBS? I was gone most of yesterday and watched no news. Did the media cover this? No one's there! I haven't seen anything about it this morning on the Sunday shows either. :grr:

Those pictures are very POWERFUL and sad.

May they rest in peace.

11. I'm ENRAGED!
One more reason to hate our media! Heaven knows we have plenty of other reasons, but to not find THIS worthy of coverage just royally pisses me off!

17. There is, however, a flag and coffin picture in today's Post,

Crew members of the USS Paul H. Nitze carry Nitke's coffin past mourners, including Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and Deputy Defense Secretary Paul D. Wolfowitz. (Photos Bill O'leary -- The Washington Post)

It was a simple service to remember a complex man.

Paul H. Nitze, a consummate Washington insider whose government service spanned eight presidencies, was remembered yesterday in a one-hour service at Washington National Cathedral as more than a key architect of American strategy against the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

12. The republican owned media continues to fail
the American People. This should have been seen nationwide.

13. Oh, my god, that's powerful
Each one a human being, each one a son or daughter - how can anyone not be moved by this? How can anyone not question whether or not all this is worth these lives?

I think one of the worst things this administration has done has been to silence dissent by calling it unpatriotic. There is nothing unpatriotic about questioning the rationale of going to war. These were precious lives and they've been lost and for what? How can these bastards sleep at night knowing they've sent so many kids to death for their own greed and ego?

If it was a crime for Bill Clinton to get a BJ in the oval office, how much more of a crime is it to send young people to their deaths for no good reason? Yet so few people question this and everyone had an opinion about Clinton! Oh, god, it infuriates me!

14. Crying in my coffee
Thanks for the link. My nazi sister-in-law sent me an email about religion and the election that I was going to ignore. I will do a reply all with a link to these pictures and the article. If there is a jeebus or god, somebody should be praying to stop this killing.

I am so happy my vote is already in to get butcher bush out.

20. you are welcome!!
catholic, just a guess, and 11 years of catholic school, so a sort of educated one!! .
turns out i'm not a much of a joiner. but i am enough of a christian to be way offended by what's going on these days. I find it so disconcerting how common it is to be against abortion and for the death penalty! amazing.
i think we need to re- renforce the separation of church and state big time.
good luck, and thanks for the welcome!

23. I did see this on a Chattanooga Station
and I am amazed they were allowed to do this. I guess Asscroft and Gang are suspending their assault on all civil liberties until after the election?

Very moving. An aerial shot would be a great campaign commercial visual.
