I wonder what Aaron McGruder thinks of Parker & Stone

Has he said anything publicly about them? Not that I'd expect him to, I'm just curious what his take is on fellow animators/cartoonists making statements like "Don't vote!".

I loved South Park the movie. I never cared for the show. I think I was more drawn to the music in the movie. As "artists" I think it is thier job to put out material that keeps everyone guessing as to thier "angle" if they even have one. But they revealed a lot about themselves to me in the weeks prior to the movie's release. "Boondocks" is heads and shoulders more brilliant than Southpark, IMHO.

1. you've taken their "don't vote" out of context..
Matt: It is hard... he says in the letter if you read the letter it is on the brochure but I forgot to bring it. He says he is not mad at all about us using his likeness which is mainly satire and silliness. The way he says if you read the letter, read the letter online... and he is obviously fuckin' mad about that. He says he is mad, he said that was ok, I don't care, leave me out, I don't worry about myself, what I worry about is some comments that you have made of voting. What we said according to Rolling Stone we have said a thing about voting where we bait each other where we thought to encourage uninformed voters to go vote isn't going to help the country that much. If you don't really know what you want to do and not really sure then just don't vote. And this whole idea of you have to vote no matter what, just get out...

Trey: We always said the campaign was about getting informed. I think that just vote or die I just think is ridiculous. That is just our personal opinion just talked about if you don't know anything and if you are just going to vote for George Bush because he is already in office or if you are going to vote for John Kerry because he is on the cover of Rolling Stone, don't vote. And there is no shame in that. The only shame is not really knowing anything, being uninformed and going voting. Because then you are just not helping us all out. It is not funny to rant on and that is what we did. And he took that and ran with it and this ridiculous, retarded logic of somehow by saying those things we meant that we wanted people to be disemboweled and mutilated overseas. If you read the logic of it, it makes no sense, it is insane.

I really couldn't agree more with their message. Why should my future be decided by people who really have no clue as to what's going on in the world around them? Do you really want people like former NASCAR driver Darrel Waltrip deciding your fate based on the fact that he feels junior is a good guy because he lives on a farm?! He actually said that on Leslie Blitzer's show yesterday. Frankly, I wish people like that WOULDN'T vote.

"don't vote. And there is no shame in that." <------ taken from your quote!

They can qualify the statement with as many factors as they wish but the fact remains that they are urging people not to vote. I'm in no position to make such statements based on how informed I conclude any one voter to be. To me that smacks of elitism but I don't think Parker and Stone are smart enough to be elitist so from them it sounds plain ignorant. Around here it seems people align themselves with that MO because it assumes that certain voters who don't see it your way are a lost cause and should therefor not excerise one of the few rights they have left. I just don't see it like that.
