"Neo-Christianity"
A term used to describe those who justify greed, killing, war and intolerance by exploiting a religion that promtes peace, love, tolerance and forgiveness.

What do y'all think,I think I'm on to something here.

11. Especially since...
The Christianity of the pre-Christendom/HRE era was centred around small communitarian communities based on the rule of love rather than on the rule of law.

5. Nope
Heresy is when you you do all the stuff Bush is doing while saying Jesus is your role model.

Like Jesus would freakin bomb Iraq while giving the wealthy a tax cut.

6. a.k.a. Dominionism
same thing, just as scary.

The First Prince of the Theocratic States of America

It happened quietly, with barely a mention in the media. Only the Washington Post dutifully reported it.<1> And only Kevin Phillips saw its significance in his new book, American Dynasty.<2> On December 24, 2001, Pat Robertson resigned his position as President of the Christian Coalition.

Behind the scenes religious conservatives were abuzz with excitement. They believed Robertson had stepped down to allow the ascendance of the President of the United States of America to take his rightful place as the head of the true American Holy Christian Church.

Robertson’s act was symbolic, but it carried a secret and solemn revelation to the faithful. It was the signal that the Bush administration was a government under God that was led by an anointed President who would be the first regent in a dynasty of regents awaiting the return of Jesus to earth. The President would now be the minister through whom God would execute His will in the nation. George W. Bush accepted his scepter and his sword with humility, grace and a sense of exultation.

9. You're right on the money...
I completely agree with you; unfortunately, I do not believe that there is any logic to contend with when it comes to rationalizing with these people(i.e., Dubya). He appears to have two agendas: 1)to bring success those with whom he suffered failure as an oil tycoon in the late 70's/early 80's and 2) to promote his evangelical beliefs.

12. "Vengeance" Christians
Like my fundy sister, who apparently feels that the Christian Bible consists of the Old Testament + the Book of Revelations. These types of people focus on the vengeance/punishment/authority/sovereignty themes above all else.

13. Right on!! and it's shaped by materialism & greed . . .
would prophesy theories and interest in world domination be so prevelent in the evangelical churches if Lahaye's "Left Behind" series had not been so profitable? Prophets = Profits!!

14. fabulous - its a step towards rightful respect and criticism
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 11:46 PM by Selwynn
finding some easy way to make a distinction between the large number of people taking the label of "christian" in your former category from the equally large if not larger number of people taking the label of "Christian in your latter category is important in the quest to rightfully criticize those who deserve it and rightfully respect those who don't.

15. Sounds good!
I think that would be a great term to use since I would prefer to seperate traditional, compassionate Christianity based on Christ's teachings from this new incarnation of a different beast.

I see no reason for people here to stero-type and feel antipathy for Christians, per se. When you distinquish via the terminology, you avoid the bigotry and I think us DU's want to do that. No need to alienate good people.

As was said above: Neo-Christianty = Dominionism ... synonym.

18. What about Neocon "Christianity"?
The CON part is the most pervasive and the most offensive. And if "neo" means "new", this kind of outrageous belief has been around for many, many centuries.
