They should be doing something.

Also, I started a thread in DU's "Activism", and will post details as soon as they are available.

33. parking
I'm guessing the the underground parking garage across the street from the auditorium will be closed for security reasons, so try and arrive early. There are several small above-ground parking lots nearby, but space will probably be at a premium.

I don't know where we'll be herded yet, as far as I know the assembly area is in Ellis Plaza. I'm sure we'll be given the boot there or hassled for a permit within 5 seconds, but it's probably a good place to start to find out where the bogus First Amendment Zone will be.

Good luck!

36. is Ellis Plaza a retail center?
Not very familiar with downtown KC, and am wondering about the area.
I am considering taking the easy way and hitching a transit bus downtown (as recommended by kciraqtaskforce.org)

here is the bus website:

Finally...more activism. Now that I've returned (from Connecticut) back to my parents house in Topeka on a forced "Bush Economy" vacation! I can now go greet the gentleman and thank him for the great work he has done and how I'm so happy to be gainfully employed at the present. OH wait, that's the sarcasm fairy again...

With no job, I have all the time in the world to protest the pResident and I plan to do so this next Thursday!!

Bring it on!!

We had quite a time greeting Cheney when he last made it to KC (not to metion Ashcroft in Columbia and Bush in Sprinfield). This should be interesting.

At least the KC police are less militant and repressive the those in St. Louis.

26. new info,
from iraq task force:

"Dear Friends of the KC Iraq Task Force,

As you may know, President Bush plans to be in Kansas City this Thursday, September 4. We'd like to encourage people to come out and take advantage of this opportunity to express their concerns about the situation in Iraq.

Let's make our message loud and clear with signs and banners for the Commander-in-Chief. The Kansas City Star reported that Bush will be speaking about the economy at Music Hall (in the Municipal Auditorium, 13th and Central in downtown KCMO). He is slated to speak at 11:30 a.m., but doors will open at 10:00 a.m. for invited members of the Greater KC Chamber of Commerce.
We ask people to assemble at 10:00 a.m. north of the Music Hall in Barney Allis Plaza Park. This is directly across the street from the entrance to Music Hall and should provide ample space for lots of protesters! Plan to stay until noon or longer if you can. If you can come earlier than 10:00 a.m., please do so. The last time Bush was in KC, he arrived at his destination several hours prior to the event, well before protesters had assembled.

Please come and bring friends! We hope to see you there.
Brad Grabs
Chairperson, KC Iraq Task Force
------------------------------------------------------------------------
More information:
- Brad Grabs, KC Iraq Task Force, 913-321-2206, [email protected] "

Let's hope for a big turnout!

27. I think we need a huge banner
Bush: Welcome to the Show Me State

Show me Osma
Show me Saddam
Show me the WMD's
Show me the jobs
Show me the healthcare
Show me the unity
Show me the recovery
etc....

Or something along those lines. What do you all think? Please refine idea as I'm sure it could be improved.

(I posted this in the bush visit thread in activism but this thread is getting more action so thought I'd post here.)

28. Will KC ask the RNC to pay for
all the overtime and extra protection for bush. Several cities have been asking the RNC to pay for at least a part of it since cities are broke. Don't know if RNC has paid for any costs yet but am betting they haven't. Bush visits really put a costly burden on cities these days. It's not like they go in with a big group and spend money - they cost the town money.

29. WOW!
I am surprized it is not in Johnson County somewhere, someplace rich and white.

I do not think that if I were George Bush, that I would want
to be inside a building built by Boss Tom.
I suspect they will have Ashcroft in for an
exorcism before hand, but still.

Compared to Bush, Tom Pendergast was a Saint!

But I'll be shocked if they let us assemble in Ellis Plaza. They have yet to allow protestors to get within a block of Bunnypants.

I'm guessing we'll be herded in a tiny corner far, far away from the motorcade.

I'm bringing a huge bag of whistles, so let's make some noise!

32. Welcome to all the GREAT DU newcomers/activists!!!
This is the first time in MONTHS that I've seen so many new posters, who are on the same sheet of music as the progressives who want to take our country back!

:bounce::hi: I'M SOOOO GLAD YOU'RE ALL HERE!! :hi::party::toast:

It has seemed for months that most of the new DUers were people trying to throw a wet blanket on anything Democratic or progressive, and I was getting really discouraged.

With this thread and seeing all the newbies ready to jump into the fray, I'm feeling a new surge of hope.

GO TO KANSAS CITY AND MAKE THE SHRUB CRY!!!!

35. indeed,
as loudsue voiced, it is encouraging to see several new local DU'er posters here.

I would like to extend a special invitation to curious lurkers who are contemplating attending their first protest. Citizens who may be nervous and reluctant at the thought of actually attending a protest.

There is not any rule which says that you must physically protest, or even carry a sign. You are free to stand nearby and simply 'watch'. Better yet, take a camera along and stay busy taking (valuable) snapshots.

It is emotionally healthy to see others who have similar concerns and outrage about our democracy. Freedom of speech is still alive and well in Kansas City.

KC protests are fun and the people are beautiful!

I had never even seen a protest until Inaguration Day. Still in shock about the process that forced * upon this country, I read about an upcoming Kansas City Inaguration protest. I decided that I somehow must attend, because I 'needed to see it'. My camera was a good excuse; a prop to hide behind.

Please do yourself a favor –
talk yourself into it
and attend (even if to observe).

Do not be sorry that you missed it.

again, here is the kcindymedia.org thread:
http://kcindymedia.org/newswire/display/591/index.php

BIG DAY tomorrow!
