omg... I just finished watching this timely film about the devastating effect of the VietNam war at home with family. It is directed by Emilio Estevaz and stars Emilio, martin Sheen and Kathy Bates. Another Fine actress plays his sister and I can not recall her name. The relationship between a father who forces his son off to war when he was drafted "for honor" and the devastating end result is riviting. I have tried to get on HBO's web site for a link but can not get it just yet.
Folks... This is one bad-ass powerful movie on war and the after effects on the soldiers and their families. I cried for a lot of it seeing the parallels happening yet again in Iraq today.
I hope you all get a chance to see it and pass it along to all of the war lovers and those who think there will be no draft coming with *...
On Edit: Here is a review I found...
Drama 2 hrs. 04 min. In every city, on every block, in each house, a war is raging... For returning Vietnam veteran Jeremy Collier, Thanksgiving, 1972 is the most difficult of times. He's been back in his Texas hometown for a full year, but can't seem to forget what happened to him in the war. Worse yet, his family doesn't have a clue as to how to deal with him. His father Bob, who owns a successful car dealership in town, is determined to be the boss at home at all costs. His mother, Maurine, refuses to see that her troubled son is desperately calling out for help. Jeremy's sister, Karen, is a college student who, misguidedly, thinks that she understands her brother's plight. Appearances are important in the Collier family. Jeremy knows that he can no longer be a part in keeping such appearances up. And over the coming Thanksgiving weekend, the Colliers' world will be shattered as Jeremy's rancour ignites a confrontation that will shake the Colliers down to their very foundation as a family. Release Date: November 22, 1996. MPAA Rating: R.
