Want to know what the US really needs right now?

Not the Democratic Party, though apparently John Kerry needs a quick refresher course in how to be aggressive, at least on-camera; not the military, though for a supposedly new type of war, there have been pitifully few new tactics developed.

Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Not necessarily the hard, cold, take-no-prisoners "$&#*ing Rebels!" Thrawn of the first trilogy, or the simply pragmatic "hard-assed dictatorial unity now because there's worse things out there" Thrawn of the Hand of Thrawn series--just a man with his genius, vision, and drive. Someone who can move his enemies into precisely the spot he wants them to, while making them think it's what they wanted to do, and then strike. Someone who can develop truly new, innovative tactics. Someone who can appreciate art. Someone with the best interests not of America, but of humanity as a whole at heart. Someone who can gut any living, active American politican and leave them cut to bloody pieces on the debate floor. (Figuratively speaking.)

Someone who can restore excitement and vitality of the best kind to American politics.

It may be a fantasy, but people still entertain the "Dean/Clark/Edwards/Gephardt/Sharpton/Lieberman/Neuman should have won" fantasies--hell, some even complain that Gore actually won in 2000; not when debating another to point out how damn power-mad the BFEE is, but complaining as if doing so might actually changed the past--so I figure why not?
