Are CBS 'forgeries' any different that Miller's NYT WMD claims?
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 03:48 PM by jmags
And I call them forgeries with the jury still out, although with the new Dallas times article with Killian's secretary saying they are forgeries, but the information is correct, it looks as if they were forged.

But my question is, if CBS was duped here, and broadcasted a story with forged memo's (even if the memo's only coincide with the mountain of evidence discussing W's lack of TANG service), how is that different that Judy Miller's breathless stories about Iraqi WMD revealed through Ahmed Chalabi w/o any reference to the widespread skepticism about Chalabi's claims?

At least CBS demonstrated they used several experts to authenticate the documents. Did Miller do that with the Iranian spies claims?

How do we have such an outcry over this, yet nothing over all the crap that was reported with little investigation in the run-up to war?

2. This is how it's different:
IF it's a forgery (which I still highly doubt), its only aim was to affect the political landscape. Miller's "forgeries" helped drum up support for an illegal war. What they have in common is that IF the CBS docs are forgeries, they originate from the same hand that forged the Iraq/WMD documents: the Bushgang's political office.

3. Stop calling those memos forgeries! I don't believe it!
There was another post on DU by a guy who was a film patcher. He explained how images change if they are photo copied, faxed, and even copied more than once. CBS never said they were the originals. I do not believe Dan would broadcast anything this explosive without convincing evidence. He's too close to retiring to have some stupid scanadal be what he's remembered for.

You are falling for the Pub distraction.

4. No. There aren't any WMD's in Iraq
But Bush did go AWOL, he did fail to take his physical, and he did get preferential treatment.

In short, they couldn't be more different.

6. I dunno, how many people have died as a result of each?
Let's see:

"Forged" documents: 0
Judith Miller's unsubstantiated cheerleading: 15,000+

Well, I know some circles where that would be an equivalency.

8. Miller Was A Willing Dupe
I don't think CBS would have gone out on this limb if they didn't think they were authentic...What ever the outcome - there is no doubt in this poster's mind there is much truth to the content of the memos.

9. The answers are all in the Card. . .
posted this in another thread. . .

I was watching John Stewart last night and they had a guy on talking about the forged pappers. Stewart asked the guy if Card knew about the letter before hand. The guy on the show had a earpiece in, but he was saying Card ran a few campaigns over the years. There was one in 75 or 76 where the same thing happened had again in the 80's. He then stopps mid-sentence and changes his mind. I am kicking myself for not TIVO'ing it.

This is my first post to DU, and I'm not as up on Andrew Card as others are, but think about it. Card gives the memo to the dead guy's wife, the wife gives the memo to Rather and then says she didn't. Who is going to go after a widow? Who is going to accuse a widow of a US veteran??? Rather stands up behind the forgery to get the truth out, he knows what happened and he won't back off his story. I know you guy's are all for conspiracy theories, but I am positive this is from the Bush camp, it has his stench all over it.

Is there any was to look up Card's political campaigning history and see what other "bombshells" were discovered by the "other side?"

When you really sit down and think about it, it makes perfect sense and it is a brilliant move by Card. Card know's his shit and he's playing all the games. It's up to us to expose him for what he truly is, he's good but not that good.
