When Fascism Comes to America, it Will Be Embraced by FOX News
September 21, 2004
When Fascism Comes to America

by Maureen Farrell

Excerpts:

I. When Fascism Comes to America, It Will Be Embraced by FOX News

"The American fascist would prefer not to use violence. His method is to poison the channels of public information. With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth to the public but how best to use the news to deceive the public. "The American fascists are most easily recognized by their deliberate perversion of truth and fact". ."– Former Vice President Henry A. Wallace, the New York Times, April 9, 1944

"Fox is not objective. Fox is a Republican propaganda machine." – Roger Ebert

" political courage and tactical cunning are worth noting in our reporting through the day," FOX News chief John Moody e-mailed staffers on June 3, 2003, in one of many instances where reporters were instructed to glowingly praise G.W. Bush as Fearless Leader Extraordinaire.

II. When Fascism Comes to America, American Fascists Will Get Richer

"Most American fascists are enthusiastically supporting the war effort. They are doing this even in those cases where they hope to have profitable connections with German chemical firms after the war ends. . . do not hesitate surreptitiously to evade the laws designed to safeguard the public from monopolistic extortion. American fascists of this stamp were clandestinely aligned with their German counterparts before the war, and are even now preparing to resume where they left off, after 'the present unpleasantness' ceases." -- Vice President Henry A. Wallace, the New York Times, April 9, 1944

"Bush-Nazi Dealings Continued Until 1951." – The New Hampshire Gazette, Nov.7, 2003

In a January, 2004 Los Angeles Times editorial, Phillips spelled out why this matters. "Between now and the November election, it's crucial that Americans come to understand how four generations of the current president's family have embroiled the United States in the Middle East through CIA connections, arms shipments, rogue banks, inherited war policies and personal financial links," he wrote. Meanwhile, author Dan Briody exposed one of the more blatant examples of impropriety. "George Bush Sr. is working for this company that is the 11th largest defense contractor in the country at the same time his son is in office waging war," he said on NPR. "It is clearly a conflict of interest. And conflicts of interest lead to potential corruption."

III When Fascism Comes to America, We Will Have Been Warned

" use every opportunity to impugn democracy. . . They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution.." -- Former Vice President Henry A. Wallace, the New York Times, April 9, 1944

"From the very way in which this administration was brought into office -- by fiat of a stacked Supreme Court. . . through just about every policy pursued since then, Bush and his minions have demonstrated a deep and alarming contempt for this country's constitution and its freedoms." -- Geov Parrish, Jan. 29, 2002

* "Once the war against Saddam begins, we expect every American to support our military, and if they can't do that, to shut up. Americans, and indeed our allies, who actively work against our military once the war is underway will be considered enemies of the state by me. Just fair warning to you, Barbra Streisand, and others who see the world as you do." -- Bill O'Reilly, The O'Reilly Factor (2/26/03)

Many of us remember watching the Vietnam War in our living rooms. We can tell you exactly where we were when John F. Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy were shot. We recall what we were doing (driving our father's Ford LTD without his permission) when we first heard that Nixon resigned. We remember Watergate and the Iranian hostage crisis and Iran/Contra, too. And while some things, like the My Lai massacre and "four dead in Ohio" left an indelible mark, we always felt that the country, regardless how troubled and torn, would be fine.

But something is different now.

And while it's difficult to define, it has something to do with those whose "lust for money or power" make them "ruthless" in their "use of deceit or violence to attain ends." It also has to do with fear and nationalism and a shift within the American public, for which we have the "deliberate poisoners of public information" to thank.

But most of all, it it has to do with the sense that, yes, it can happen here. And, like never before in most of our lives, the time seems tragically "ripe."

3. The US is 'ripe for fascism'...
...and once established...it will take decades to reverse it.

- Read the whole article and the warnings since the 1940s that fascism could rise in America.

8. Why is it that most Americans...even most posters on DU...cling to....
...the idea that Fascism has NOT YET arrived in America?? How is it possible for an author to get an article published that is so completely CLUELESS??

I have a few questions for those folks:

1. Where the heck were you when the NeoCons ILLEGALLY took power during the bloodless Coup of December 2000??

2. Where the heck were you when Patriot Act I was passed by Congress and signed into law by our resident dictator, thus eroding the U. S. Constitution to bare bones??

3. Where the heck were you when our resident dictator made the decision to invade Iraq based on a pack of lies which has resulted in the deaths of more than a thousand American troops and tens of thousands of Iraqis??

4. Where the heck were you when several key provisions of Patriot Act II were passed by Congress as hidden riders to other bills, spelling the end of the U. S. Constitution as we once knew it??

....and finally...

5. WHERE THE HECK ARE YOU GOING TO BE ON THIS COMING ELECTION DAY??

16. Here's another question for you.
Why the heck did Mr. Bush let the assault weapons ban expire so Al-Qaeda operatives in America can get their slimy hands on them legally?

So much for our "courageous" president fighting the war on "terra".

17. ..maybe we just have not realized this yet or are in self denial or ....
Let me be the devils advocate, although I somewhat agree...
...we realy have not yet seen the true face of a facist American state here yet.

All of the points you stated are true, but can be explained as part of the 'norm' of a democracy at work.

"1. Where the heck were you when the NeoCons ILLEGALLY took power during the bloodless Coup of December 2000??"

If Gore had won his own state or Liberman, he would of won the election. To argue it was illegal is going to be almost impossible.

"2. Where the heck were you when Patriot Act I was passed by Congress and signed into law by our resident dictator, thus eroding the U. S. Constitution to bare bones??"

Last I recall, that was passed by both Republicans and Democrats, in a truely facist state, would it not of been forced through by one party?

"3. Where the heck were you when our resident dictator made the decision to invade Iraq based on a pack of lies which has resulted in the deaths of more than a thousand American troops and tens of thousands of Iraqis??"

well the media did not do its job, ask tough questions, this is probably your best point though. Media consolidation and 'FOX' like psuedo news for the right wing.

"4. Where the heck were you when several key provisions of Patriot Act II were passed by Congress as hidden riders to other bills, spelling the end of the U. S. Constitution as we once knew it??"

there are major portions of that act which are as despicable as the terrorist attack on 9-11. But since nobody seems to care? No media attention....

18. I'll be in the Polling booths...

and when they come to "get me", I'll be dead on the floor before they can touch me.

Better a "38 sandwich" than the continuing ideological ass-rape we've endured for so long.

...but few others...even on DU...tend to believe that as long as we have (mock) elections that democracy still survives.

- I've voted in every election for the last thirty years. But it's only been since the bloodless coup of 2000 that I've felt that voting is the least of our worries. Fascists may allow you to vote...but the game is rigged for a predetermined outcome.

4. It can happen here
Edited on Tue Sep-21-04 05:56 AM by sffreeways
too late, it has happened here. The moment to wait for is when the response begins. That's when things get very very ugly and very very dangerous. Not just our troops that are in danger anymore, it's everyone of us too now.

And they go on about Dan Rather while we have slime like fox news.

Remember Sue Neiderer !

7. I would guess that many Americans have no idea what fascism IS...
...and I have the gut feeling that they'll finally know it when they see it if George* gets another four years. The Bushies have laid the groundwork...now all they need is more time to hammer the rest of the nails into democracy's coffin.

10. Tragically ripe indeed: US police state starts October 1st
This was Friday afternoons news dump. Exept for CBS and a brief cheerleading session at Faux, it has been ignored by the media since then.

FBI's Anti-Terror 'October Plan'
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/09/17/eveningnews/main644096.shtml
(CBS) Convinced that al Qaeda is still determined to disrupt the U.S. fall elections by an attack on the homeland, FBI officials here are preparing a massive counter-offensive of interrogations, surveillance and possible detentions they hope will disrupt the terrorist plans, reports CBS News Correspondent Jim Stewart.

FBI field offices and Homeland Security agencies will be advised of "extraordinary measures" that will go into place "beginning the first week of October through the elections."

An internal e-mail advisory to supervisory agents this week from the FBI's "'04 Threat Task Force" said the purpose of the counter-offensive is "to foster the impression that law enforcement is focused on individuals who may be a threat."

Specifically, the plan calls for "aggressive - even obvious - surveillance" techniques to be used on a short list of people suspected of being terrorist sympathizers, but who have not committed a crime. Other "persons of interest," including their family members, may also be brought in for questioning, one source said.

More - especially the last paragraph.

13. It now time
To let unaware America know about Fascism and how this adminstration is following every trick in the book to seal the deal. I'm not sure if local ( or national ) newspapers would allow letters to the editor showing this but it's worth a try!

14. Certainly not just FOX...
CNN gets worse by the day. All these news outlets (except maybe CBS) are on a fast track to fascist hell. CBS is a good example of what happens to a news organization that is now trying to stand up to them. All the others are calling for the head of Dan Rather and the complete castigation of CBS news. I have never seen anything like this in my life! :grr:

19. "It can't happen HERE!"
The fuck it can't.
Read the book by Sinclair Lewis.

Then Read Carl Sagan's "The Demon-haunted World" for insight on why your mother-in-law traded her beanie babies for magic 9-11 teddy bears....

I heard a story today about how research into GM Bentgrass, a favourite at golf courses, showed that the pollen can drift at least 14 miles, and the GM-traits are present in "wild" Bentgrass.

But this is nothing to worry about, because groundskeepers at golf courses ALWAYS cut the grass before it flowers...
S'Yeah, right...And this was just the example of our Government and Big Business jerking each other off that I remember from the pre-coffee fog today...

Big Business and Bush's "smaller, more efficient" government are ALWAYS in bed together. I'm waiting for more examples of "legislated customers", as when states started with their mandatory auto insurance...Yes, it's responsible to have car insurance, but I have never understood why the insurance industry complained about getting new customers, then raised everyone's rates to make up for the increased "expense" of all these new customers....

Feed the Murkan Sheeple bullshit, they're quite fond of the flavour, actually....
