Bin Laden ‘May Be in Pakistan’
US ambassador Nancy Powell has said there is “a strong possibility” terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden is hiding in Pakistan’s remote tribal regions on the border with Afghanistan, it was reported today.

The United States, Pakistan’s spy agency and local police were working closely to track down the al Qaida leader, one of the world’s most wanted fugitives, she said.

“There is a strong possibility that he (bin Laden) might be hiding somewhere in the tribal areas of the country,” Pakistani English newspaper The Nation quoted her as saying.

Does anyone know who this "Bin Laden" is? I don't recall seeing this names before...

4. They _let_ him get away
He "might be" in Pakistan, he "might be" in Iraq, and there is more than a "strong possiblity" that he is somewhere on planet earth, planning more attacks.

Now, why is it that we don't really know where he is?

It is a fact that * chose war in Afghanistan instead of following up on the Taliban's offer to turn OBL over to international justice, if evidence against him was provided. The ensuing chaos in Afghanistan allowed him to get away (assuming he was still there on Sept. 12).

Here again, the *Idiot has proven himself to have the Sidam touch - whatever he touches turns to shit.

But whenever the question of OBL's current location comes up, I like to play Dueling Quotes From Dubya. These will not likely be news to most evilDUers:

13-Sep-01: "The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our Number one priority and we will not rest until we find him."

13-Mar-02: "I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and I really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."

3. Taliban, Pakistan, and NWFP
Bin Laden has probably been hopping back and forth across the border between Afghanistan and the North West Frontier Province in Pakistan since we "defeated" all those nasty Taliban.

Of course most of those accounts fail to mention that our "defeat" of them simply meant that they saw they were outgunned, changed the colors of their turbans (except in southern Afghanistan) and they went home with their weapons. I think this kind of defeat can be most diplomatically described as "indecisive."

The ISI (Pakistani spy agency referred to here) tracking down Bin Laden is one of the more blatant "fox patrolling the hen house" situations you could ask for considering the ISI was our conduit for the muj back in the bad old Soviet days and that they bankrolled and supported the Taliban's rise to power.

Not that they or anyone else will ever find anything in the NWFP. That place is baaaad news. Unless he pisses off someone powerful in that region he will never be caught.

5. Bin Laden ‘May Be in Crawford’
Since they don't have him in custody, it is obvious they don't know where the hell he is.

Cheers

7. You must be referring to....Osama bin Forgotten....
I've never heard of Osama bin Laden...at least not for the last year. Maybe thats because bin Laden didn't have any more politcal mileage left in capturing him or going after him. Seems that b... needed somethng to prop up his dropping polling numbers so he manufactured a war against Iraq....always a good way to get the public to rally around you.
