Theory proposed for why Bush stopped drills in April 1972
I'm wondering if maybe that day in April if one of his buddies decided to play a joke on him (Hey guys, let's pretend like we're getting Bushie in a missile lock, hee hee!) Maybe he was coked up and really freaked out that day, shit and pissed himself, and could never bring himself to fly again?

3. I have this vision of the shrub
on his knees sounding just like his quote about Karla Faye Tucker "please don't send me to vietnam, I didn't mean to get all doped up and I promise I'll become a born again (someday) please please please.

4. That's possible, but I think he either wrecked a plane or came damn close
And then of course the military started doing urinalysis in 1972, and we know Powder Boy ain't gonna pass one of them.

But I gotta admit, the idea of him pooping his pants at a critical moment has its merits...just look at the images from 9/11 to confirm that it's in his nature to react that way.

6. Same reason lots of NGs and reservists
Got casual about drills. Force in Vietnam was down to 15,000. All of the services were cutting back and trying to meet "year-end" maximum strengths. Active officers were being RIFed like Christmas help after New Years. None of the services could handle bringing on reserve component non-performers within their congressionally mandated ceilings. The only recourse the NG and reserves had was to transfer the reluctant warriors to the inactive (non-drilling, non-pay) reserves until their obligation expired.

7. Whaaaaat??????
He refused to take a required flight physical which is given specifically by a Military Flight Surgeon. This was known in 2000 yet the "liberal" media refused to report it......never had any trouble reporting John McCain's POW mental problems nor his families. He refused to take a required flight physical and was therefore immediately grounded. He disobeyed order's and then followed through with the remainder of his 6-yr ANG committment by failing to report or show up in Alabama and Mass. for REQUIRED UNDER ORDERS, for duty.

It doesn't matter that the war was winding down, even many of those returning from Vietnam still had to fullfil their required commitments.

How many excuses are the Cons going to accept from this sorry excuse of a human being. He was AWOL and 30-days later he should have been charged with desertion. His daddy pulled strings to get him into the ANG and he again pulled strings to get him and Honorable Discharge, he again used strings to attempt to scrub all records of his son's ANG records.

9. I am not saying that what he did was admirable..........
What I am saying is that nonperformance of reserve components duty is not criminal AWOL or desertion. If you don't show up for a drill, you don't get paid for it (unless you pull equivalent training), but they don't send the police after you. Non-performing reservists are either (1) ordered to active duty or (2) transferred to the inactive reserve. In 1972, ordering to active duty was no longer an option. Lots and lots of folks who signed up for the reserve components to avoid being drafted took advantage of this fact in 1972-1974 to skip out on their reserve obligations. Now screw over the reserves in 1968, and, bang, you were on active duty and ticketed for the next plane to Nam. A NG or reservist can only be AWOL when they are called to active duty.
