Here's the scenario that plays in my head:
Around 12:00 p.m. eastern time, suspicious substances are found in many polling places.
A call is made by Ridge, Ashcroft et. al. to close down the election, and that the results up to that time are the best we can do to determine "the will of the people".
Now, if blue collar and low-wage workers can't and generally don't make it to the polls until after their work day, this could cause a "landslide" electoral victory for *, particularly if the repubs work extra hard to get their folks to the polls in the early hours of the day. This may cause WA/OR/CA (or some combination) to go to *, even though not all voters who intended to vote had voted.
Put Fox News, CNN on full time spin mode, saying how the election would have come out the same even if the polls were open all day, and * can steal the election without having to tamper with ballots, paper or electronic.
There are 2 key assumptions in this theory:
1) Getting the "unknown substance" into the polling places. I think there are plenty of extreme right-wing wackos willing and able (and probably already contemplating) to do this job.
2) Repubs vote more heavily in the morning hours than do dems.
-- Does anyone have any insight (data would be preferable, obviously) about my second assumption?
