"Nancy Reagan Backing Bush's Re-Election"
By JEFF WILSON, Associated Press Writer

LOS ANGELES - Former first lady Nancy Reagan, who opposes President Bush (news - web sites)'s policy on limiting embryonic stem cell research, is backing the Republican's re-election bid.

"The campaign is certainly about more than one issue," said spokeswoman Joanne Drake, who described Reagan on Tuesday as in "full and complete support of President Bush's candidacy."

21. Ronald Reagan Was NOT Stupid
he was and was not a lot of things... but he was NOT stupid.

This Nancy Reagan bashing is disgusting.

And its based on a comment made from someone other than herself.

19. Do You Have A Link To This Info- Nancy Might Campaign For Junior?
or is this just a general "might"... like Junior MIGHT actually ever make a decision based on our benefit rather than his own.

16. I would suggest it was the way you worded your message.
The way you worded it sounded like *you* thought they were the only source. "Is it just federal funding used for working on aborted fetus or something more sinister?"

18. A blastocyst is not a fetus...
...nor are the cell clusters used in stem cell research in any way "aborted" than the end result of the use of the Pill.

15. No.
The stem cells in question come from surplus frozen embryos left over from in vitro fertilization procedures at fertility clinics.

28. It's for political reasons.
Have you heard any of Ron Reagan's speeches on stem cell research? He sums it up very well.

20. This contradicts what was said last week at Capitol Hill Blue
Wonder which will come to pass?

http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/article_4966.shtml

<snip>
At first glance, Drake's comments appear to contradict sources close to the former First Lady who told Capitol Hill Blue last week that Mrs. Reagan would not campaign for President Bush but the statement does not refute any of the details in the published story although a modified, and incorrect, version of the article was apparently circulated via email.

29. I just don't see this.
The impression I get from Nancy Reagan is that of a woman devoted to her husband, and now to his memory. And the stem cell research was a surrogate for the healing efforts she wished she could have given to that husband. Not hearing this directly from her is a sign that she ISN'T fully and completely in support of Bush, but for some reason has been forced into accepting that pose.

I think the Bush campaign found pressure to apply on her. Natural thing would be some kind of dirt on her husband. They'd be in a position to have the dirt, and it's what she's most vulnerable to right now.

32. Sounds like Nancy just wants everyone off her back
I'm sure she's too worn out after burying her husband to stir up a hornets nest by creating any undue controversy. She just made a generic statement, and now she's going on with her life. If she speaks at the GOP Convention I'll be shocked. She's likely tired of all the harassment, and, being an elderly, reclusive woman, just wants to be left alone and be allowed to get on with her life.

I really don't blame her, and hold nothing against her. She's too old and exhausted to shock the hell out of people by supporting Kerry. I say everyone should just leave her be and let her grieve over her husband in private.

How hard can it be to GET THE SCOOP FROM NANCY REAGAN HERSELF?????

Nonetheless, we must be content with the allegations of underlings.
