Why is your driver's license and social sec. number needed to see Cheney?

Cheney is speaking here tomorrow and after reading the report earlier this week about people being forced to sign an automatic endorsement before purchasing tickets, I thought I'd find out if we're doing the same.
So far most of the advance tickets are sold out, but you can wait in line at the door to ask for extras. All you need is your driver's license and social security number.
Is this needed for security? I don't see how they would have enough time to check everyone's information, plus a severe frisk down would seem to get the job done. Just curious. Anyone know?
