1. My parents make $50,000/yr between the two of them...
And they still sent me, my brother, and my sister to college.

Tom Ridge is an idiot and a liar.

6. Did you see that Tom said he might not come back for the next term?
I bet he resigns so he doesn't get kicked to the curb by Kerry.

He is J Edgar Hoover all over again, so hes using his salary to buy all sorts of clothing and probably some shoes from Imelda Marcos.

14. Yeah, I am hoping that I can convince them to commute
and save on room and board. But hey, they are only 4 and 6 years old. *lol* By the time college rolls around I should be working, and we might have a better system for getting kids into college without breaking their backs with student loans. :)

18. nah, stick em in the dorms
I know you want to hold on to them, and I know it's cheaper, but at least one year of dormitory life should be manditory. It's an amazing experience. An off campus party apartment is a must as well. It's a short, expensive, amazing time, and it's one that should be enjoyed.

/says the grad up to his eyeballs in debt ;)

20. Maybe after a couple of years of commuting...
Been out of college for ten years and we are still paying off the loans, for degrees we aren't even using.

Education is a wonderful thing, and I very much want my kids to have it in their lives, but I don't want them going through bankruptcy before the age of 30 (or any time, really) like we did.

And I absolutely refuse to think about what might go on at that party apartment. *lol* I will hide my head under a pillow for that year, for sure! *l*

5. That truly exemplifies the class divide.
I don't ever expect to make $175,000 per year.

if I lived in an $800,000 house!!! which apparently he does. well him and the mortgage company

He probably takes home about 10K a month - apparently his mortgage is over 7K a month and apparently he hasn't saved very well and maybe since he only has 3k a month left he might actually not have enough to send his kids to college.

Now that said - I have no pity for him because he doesn't have to live in a freaking 800K house. But also if he can make more money in the private sector - this is America - have at it.

10. Typical...
Too many politicos, mostly 'pubs, resign from their CEO positions to take up a government position, then stay in office just long enough to glean more business contacts while doing as little as possible for the people they are supposed to be representing, then they resign and make a fortune via their new contacts, and around and around it goes.

11. Oh for Pete's sake. That's just wrong. Isn't it.
Perhaps Mr Ridge should have gotten his financial priorities in order before now...I didn't think Duct tape cost all that much money.

Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 12:38 PM by JDPriestly
Lots of unhappy people: Whitman, O'Neill, Lindsay, Tenet, Clarke, etc. left. What about Ridge, Rice?, Powell? Who else? Help! I haven't been following this.

16. Put four children thru college
on about 42.000 a year, back in the 70;s. At the most we always had three in collage at once. I went to work to pay off a 2nd mortgage, the children also had part time jobs. It was a rough time, but they all made it! Now we have grandchildren starting college, and yes we are helping them .The cost is outragious theses days, but certainly Ridge could handle it with his income.
