I can see it clear as day. Look around. Especially around the economy. Listen closely and just try and feel the people out. Traditional Conservatives always accused Liberals of "Tax and Spend" but now Liberals are "Fiscally Responsible". Republicans are turning into the party of "Tax Breaks and Spend... and spend a lot", which creates these record deficits which the traditional Conservatives HATE.
The Traditional Conservatives, although many of them embrace the values of the far Right seem to have a huge distain for them. I'm not sure why, exactly, other than the fact there is some element of jealousy there and the fact that they are completely loony people.
Take a look at Scarface and Buchanan. They'll vote for Bush but he's OBVIOUSLY not their favorite person. They are OBVIOUSLY holding their noses while they do it.
The traditional Conservatives are pretty main stream. They respect the Constitution. They HATE John Ashcroft -- they'd probably string the guy up a tree if they had a chance. Their problem, however, is that they don't have *REAL* representation within the party. So, *IF* some type of civil war breaks out within the Republican Party it is highly likely that they'll shift even further to the right. This, of course, will dramatically weaken them. They won't be able to win elections even in Texas because the majority of Americans just don't believe in pulling back our civil rights "because we have too many", invading foreign countries because a handful of people have Imperialistic dreams, all the while on the home front running our economy into the ground.
*IF* Bush wins and that's a big *IF* because I don't think he will... then this is almost certain. I think this might be a good thing for Democrats, because if the Republicans are busy fighting among themselves they can't pass bad legislation. If Republicans are fighting within themselves that makes us Democrats even stronger especially if we are able to stay unified.
I am just wondering how far this so-called "Civil War" will go? How many will jump ship? Could we see an end to the Republican Party -- watch it fracture into two separate parties, effectively ending the two party system? If that happens what will happen to the Democrats?
