1. THIS is where you can win
Before I left California - I got a liberal, educated, committed non-voter (he was mid thirties) to register and vote. Took a lot of wearing down (and bringing the registration card to him) - his wife was surprised - she had long given up.

I'm not there so I can't identify a handful of nonvoters and work on them to get them voting - but if I were - I would set a goal and pursue it. We don't have mass media on our side. We don't have as much money as arnie. But we can still dominate in one-on-one conversations - because our arguments make sense. Let the rest of us watch and learn from you Californians - because WE all need to identify nonvoters, and get them voting by 2004. This is where the battle will be fought and won.

2. True
One can go to the post office, pick up registrations and keep them handy. Just make sure they end up in the registrar of voters office after they are filled out.

4. I picked up four registration forms at library
and only have two left. I live in a small Central Valley town with a large Hispanic population. Young Latinos are excited about the upcoming recall election and like Bustamante so much that I fear that they will vote for the recall. I need to figure out how to get them to vote No on recall first, before voting for Bustamante. Any help?

5. Remind them there is NO GUARANTEE of a Dem win with the numbers
so close and that there will be a Ballot Proposition (54) that will energize the Republican vote. Bustamante will run at the end of Davis' term. We NEED TO HAVE BOTH CHANCES TO KEEP THE STATE DEM.

BTW, my boss ( a conservative Republican) is voting yes on the recall and YES on Bustamante (funny, eh?)

6. Thanks, that does help
Interesting, Prop 54 isn't getting any coverage to speak of but it may become a hot button issue when it comes into play, closer to the election. I will continue to find new people to sign up in the meantime. Boy, this recall election is truly a three ring circus; not unlike a restless night's sleep after eating a very heavy curry dish.

Marching words for the day (well, the next 50 days) is get out the vote!

7. Is Prop. 54 on the Oct. ballot or the November one?
Counties and cities that already had a November election scheduled (school boards, city councils, etc.) are still having them.

Wouldn't prop. 54 be on the Nov. ballot as a regularly scheduled item, instead of on the Oct. one as something "special?" Just asking.

8. October 7
Judge says there's no
legal reason to delay a
vote on the racially
charged issue.

<snip>

The judge ruled that after the proposition qualified as a ballot measure on July 15, 2002, Secretary of State Kevin Shelley was required by law to place it on the ballot of the next general election, which is Oct. 7, when voters will decide whether to recall Gov. Gray Davis.
